All JW's are good for is judging people, even in their own congregation.

    AMEN!

I will never forget a few years back there was this news story I believe it was on 20/20 about this young JW girl who almost died due to a brain tumor (I believe). It turns out that the surgery that could be used to save her required blood and she, of course, refused it. They went to NJ and found a doctor who would do it without blood and she survived the surgery. After recuperating from the surgery, her JW parents bought her a 2 door car. My wife and I were on our way out of the JWs at this time and my wife laughingly said "I bet some JWs are upset about that car her parents bought her since it is only a 2 door car." And, sure enough, I went on a pro-JW discussion board on the internet the next day and there was an entire thread on that board devoted to criticizing this young JW lady who almost died for upholding their ridiculous ban on blood (and her family) because she now drives around in a 2 door car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's just say I was still an active witness.

At age 47, with no formal education, I have to work a part-time job, supplementing my full-time job to make ends meet.

Part-time job=20 hours a week Full-time=40 hours a week. NO time to go in service, but

maybe someone will feed me and pay my bills so I can pioneer.

I only in the last five years started working, where I could get retirement.

Don't listen to ANYONE, that says they will take care of you. Don't let anyone stifle education and the opportunity for good paying jobs.

The advice from the Society, FDS, governing body, whatever they want to call themselves is entirely selfish.

They will not be there for you when you age, when you need medical benefits, when you need housing,

They ask you to distant yourself from your family if they are not witnesses, don't get educated, marry only another JW, etc etc etc............

If you are a young person considering an education over pioneering, think about who is going to WORK so that you can do that.

Footnote: * Greek society placed a high value on education. Plutarch, a contemporary of Timothy, wrote: "To receive a proper education is the source and root of all goodness. ... It is this, I say, which leads on and helps towards moral excellence and towards happiness.... All other advantages are human, and trivial, and not worth our serious concern." -Moralia, I, "The Education of Children.")

I love this quote. Mainly because it is very easy to agree with this. Education is the key to moral excellenc and happiness. I think in a different context, the WT would use this quote to support their point. I can't belive they quoted it as a "bad influence"

Thanks for a very well researched comments Blondie!

It does seem to be a shame to be encouraged to give all your time to the WTS to gain new followers for them at the expense of your own financial security and job prospects. Its quite amusing seeing that a lot of Elders have good paying jobs, and yet how would they have accomplished that following such advice (directive). In my old congregation most had decent jobs (able to buy a home and support a family) why are these examples to the flock free from having to full time evangelise for the society? I bought into the 'being ordinary and unlettered' and now struggle financially at my manual labour jobs. It seems a case of hook them while they are young and forever they will serve.

Excellent comments, everyone! I truly learn each week from all of you. What a lively group. If the WT studies had been more interesting and lively............would more have stayed?

Almost 1,100 views on this one and more than 30 comments. Shows how interested we are in the minors at the KH; many of us were one.

Good analytical and critical thinking as usual. The essence is that when an organisation and its leaders who do not have any real spiritual goals try to persuade their members and especially the impressionable young ones to set such goals, this means that they are somehow being led into a trap.

Don't they know that many a JW that made such sacrifices ended up in financial trouble and all the org would tell them was pray to jehovah to help you?

All the 'could have beens' and 'could have had' mean nothing now! I let it all go in my youth because Armageddon was coming! What I could have been, and all I could have had, is replaced by all the struggles we had and all the love we now have because all we have is eachother and the struggles ahead.

Who to blame? Maybe myself for not using the brain I had and allowing myself to be forced into capitulation with my family and their heinous cult! At the age I am now, I am beginning to study hard but am still stiffled by hefty family responsibilities. All the time wasted, 'working towards Armageddon' is just that, wasted! Learn lessons well, even bad ones. Never be fooled again!

However, any young JWs reading this thread, grab your education with both hands and work hard because this is all there is! The WT Society wil NEVER look after its slaves, EVER! Good Luck!

I agree with you Gill and actually now feel VERY sorry for my children if I ever have any - they are not going to have any time left after their golf lessons, piano and guitar lessons, language lessons and other private tutoring I plan on fitting in to their schedule once they hit 2 years of age...
