Even though it was looked down upon, I went to see the Who, The Rolling Stones, Meatloaf, The Police, Styx, and a few other lesser bands. I figured, If anybody from the KH saw me in there, they would be just a guilty as I was. (As a matter of fact, I did see a couple of other teens from other congregations at a couple of the concerts).
What Rock Bands did you miss in concert due to WTS pressure?

Earlier on, when I was a good jdubbie, the only concerts I went to were OMD and Julian Lennon -- real tame stuff. But I remember someone in the congregation asking whether the "D" in OMD stood for "Devil"....lol

GnR and the awesome freaking David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails concert all my worldly friends went to and said it was the best concert ever. I also hate I missed all of the Lallapaloosa's.

I've always gone to everything I've wanted to see, but I do remember an old buddy of mine having a huge crisis of faith over whether or not to attend a Ministry concert with me, as it was his favorite band. He talked it over with his wife, who told him it was up to him but to "always remember Jehovah is watching". He even discussed it with an elder who discouraged him against it as he was reaching out to become an MS. His eyes were red around the edges and his eyeballs glistening with tears when he told me that he had decided it was against his "Bible trained conscience" to go. He used those words.
I sent him a cell phone pic of myself and another buddy after we had just smoked up at the show laughing our asses off and having a great time.

I did not even think about going to a concert back then. When we as a family were on holiday in Vienna, Austria, I would have had a chance to see Falco. I would have loved to see Queen.

Man, that's the German equivalent of an American seeing Elvis. Too bad he died so young. I always thought he was a lot of fun.

My first concert was....hold on to your hats....Three Dog Night...Oh what a demon spawn band they were. And I was nervous as hell knowing that I was going to a worldly "rock" concert as a JW youth.
I did manager to go to a lot of concerts as I got older, even some that most dubs would not go to. But I also missed a bunch in my younger years. Going to bands like TDN or James Taylor or Simon and Garfunkel wasn't too upsetting to anyone but I never got to see the Stones(pre-Angie era, when they were still relevant), The Who and the Grateful Dead. I didn't get to see Aerosmith until they rehabed and became famous the second time around.
Later, I started going to more and more concerts. I saw U2, R.E.M., Genesis, Dylan, Clapton, Tom Petty, The Eagles (that one raised a few eyebrows), Pink Floyd and many more that I've forgotten. I've even seen AC/DC, Metallica, Godsmack, Ministry, the Chili Peppers and I went to Ozfest one year. By the time I became inactive, I no longer worried about whether a band was "debasing" or not. If I liked them, I went to the concert.
I still go to a lot of concerts now, but I prefer to support live music in smaller venues seeing up-and-coming bands and area favorite bands.
