A 4th of July Parade

This year, my hubby's B.A.S.S club has been invited to be in the parade out by the Harbor and going all through the town of Oswego, (proudly known as the Port City and the Gateway to the St Lawrence SeaWay) Since I cannot climb up onto the decorated boats that will be displayed....they have invited me (little OLD ME) to ride in one of the trucks that will be towing the boat that hubby will be in.

I know this isn't THE most exciting event that most of you will be doing this weekend....but for an old lady that hasn't been allowed to SEE a July 4th parade for 30 years...it IS a bit out of the "ordinary" in my list of things to do, LOL! I am looking forward to just "doing stuff" that ordinary people DO in the community. Small as it may seem, it is a HUGE thing to have the freedom to do so!

    Hi:

I think it was last year that I marched in the 4th of July parade carrying a sign for the gubernatorial candidate I was voting for in the election last fall. It was fun. I met a lot of very nice and thoughtful people. It was really cool to be able to exercise my right to free speech and my right to vote which is something JWs are not allowed to do.

I thought in 1999 an WT magazine allowed JW's to vote. Anyone have a reference?

    HI JEFF!!

It's been a long time since we "conversed" here online, isn't it? I can appreciate the "really cool" idea concerning the free speech, when we were ALL so stifled for so many years! These baby steps might seem insignificant to others....but SO exhilerating to a former JW!

I think I know how you feel. My daughter is going to Florida on her vacation, and I'm asking her to buy some lottery tickets. I've got the numbers picked out already.

I know this may seem like nothing to others, but it's a BIG step for yours truly. We surrendered so much to the WTS, didn't we?

Hey Annie, I thought we were friends!

You're celebrating an event that's about defeating my countrymen and breaking away from the motherland! I'm distraught!

    Have a GREAT time!

    Love,

    Ian
