That's wonderful Sunspot! Have a great time:)

I remember my first Fourth of July parade post-JW very well.It had been a tradition to go to this certain parade every year with my family-including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Then we would head to the beach and have Kentucky Fried chicken. This particular parade has a HUGE clown band that plays very well and very loudly.

I didn't realize how much I'd missed that yearly tradition for the twenty years I was JW!I think my family got a kick out of how much I was enjoying it:) I can't go this year because I'm in nursing school, but I'm going to do everything I can to go next year again.

    Kwr,

I think that Watchtower referred only to women who had nonJW husbands who insisted that they vote. And I got the sense it was only women in nonUS countries that were told to do that.

That article was really confusing to me. I didn't understand why one person was supposed refuse blood transfusions to the point of death, but if if a woman was told by her human husband that she had to vote, then her "submission" to him took precadence over submission to God.

    Made no sense to me.

I thought in 1999 an WT magazine allowed JW's to vote. Anyone have a reference?

Hmmm....that was the same year that I left, and stopped getting my recommended dose of tainted spiritual food. I doubt that JWs are "allowed" to vote though. Maybe someone else could help you out with this.

I know this may seem like nothing to others, but it's a BIG step for yours truly.

Snowbird....I still have yet to buy a lottery card of any kind, because here I am, at MY age....and I don't know what to ask for or what to do with it when I get it!!! I am afraid I am going to ask something or do something really stupid, LOL! My son has given me some "scratch off" cards specifically made for Mother's Day (I won $5) but that's the nearest thing that I have gotten to any of this!

You're celebrating an event that's about defeating my countrymen and breaking away from the motherland! I'm distraught!

Awww, Ian, I'll promise to celebrate it.....quietly...if it helps you, LOL!

We've lived in our current house for the last 9 years. The Fourth of July Parade comes right past our house. We have made it a family tradition to gather up our lawn chairs and sit out by the road along with all our neighbors.

Favorite parade floats are the ones that throw candy to the kids. The bands are always fun too. Oh and the clowns...and the Shriners in their little hats and tiny cars.

    *Parade's a commin' Parade's a commin'!*

Have fun Sunspot....maybe you could wear clown makeup just for the fun of it. Or better yet find someone with a convertable and wear a tiara.

Cicatrix....there are so many really NICE traditions that JWs are told they MUST stay away from. We HAVE missed out on so much because of their stupid policies! Maybe you can't go this year .....but the REASON is not because you have been told you can't...and you would be "allowed" to be there if it wasn't for a schedule complication. It makes all the difference!

    Wow, Lisa.....how cool is THAT!

I don't know about the "dressing like a clown" (although it sounds very tempting now that you mention it!) but this is a sponsored club that I will be representing and I wouldn't want to do any that might be seen as "inappropriate" to some of the staunch members. They are what you would call---"serious fishermen"---that might not share my sense of humor!

My hubby has a website he designed for the club. It's at www.portcitybassmasters.org if you'd like to take a peek!

They just had a function last weekend that we were invited to (click on the "OUTDOOR CHANNEL BBQ" button on the website)....but we were down in Utica for our grandson's graduation ceremony. We just could not figure out how to be in both places at once!

We have to begin to "assemble" the boats, vans and trucks at 10:30 AM and the parade doesn't start until 1:00 PM! I will be riding in the lead van being driven by the club president....(at least that's the plan so far!) And yeah...I get as excited at parades like a little kid....I have butterflies right now just thinking about tomorrow!

    hugs,

    Annie
