There has been some discussion that Mr. Bates article was a little mean.

People, Mr. Bates' article had to be edited and shortened from it orginal piece do to the so-called war that is going on.

You are lucky to get anything in any newspaper right now.

Well done Steve, I am sorry the editor edited a lot of your article but it was great and keep up the good work.

    Hawk,

I'd imagine that many journalists are fed up with the WTS's constant refusal to be straight with them. In reality his article accurately reflected the actual opinions of "apostates" held by most JWs. Whether the way it was written was good for our specific purposes is a different story.

    Three points:

    (i) An official press statement from the UN would be nice. This might result if enough JWs etc call or email for verification, but I doubt it. I'm not suggesting any of us go for this.

(ii) Will the WTS respond? I doubt it. If they don't then that is, in itself, an admission although most JWs will just believe the internal rumors that are spread (apostate lies, there never was a link, a UN plot, etc.) Again, not much we can do here. It does illustrate, first hand, what liars the leaders are.

(iii) Finally, the WTS has lost something that probably opened up many doors to it. That will do long term damage.

So, it doesn't look that great, short term, but this is a war of attrition.

Having seen the "bird seed" comment from the JW boards myself, I know this part was true. It may have been better to leave that out, or maybe not. A lot of householders are going to be wondering what JWs really think of them now...

As for the "hypocrite" title, I not only have no objection to it, I think it was highly appropriate. Really, if you can't use it here, when could you use it?

    Trib,

I thought Steve's edited article was great. Also Steve's full article will be seen in the Guardian Weeekly that will be coming out shortly. Also Steve will be writing another piece on it for next Saturday's Guardian - So Watch the paper.

You kinda got an offical reponse from the UN. You now need the press to assist you in going further??

Well that is where a few brave soles such as Bill etc. have released a press release to over 100 newspapers including AP. I only offered a few suggestions to the release but I have yet to see it.

Will it be picked up? I don't know thanks to this War sh!t who knows.

To keep up the "attack" I urge all to contact their newspapers with the information you now have etc. This is really the only way to force the issue and keep them in retreat.

You are right about the long term damage.

I also hope someone gets all this to the Russian and French courts who are looking at the WTS right now.

    Hawk,

What I meant was for the UN to issue something officially, say a press release or a staement on their web site. That would be icing on the cake. That _might_ happen if enough inquiries continue to bombard them. At the Guardian talkboard there is a link to the UN web site in the hope that people might be prompted to email.

I'd suggest that we transfer some of the discussion to that talk board. Lots of people will see the headline when they go to the popular "Issues" area, that is if we keep it on top.

ps: I have written a fairly lengthy research article that puts this in the context of Human Rights together with copies of statements/pictures/etc from older publications (1930s). Mommy has my email address if you're interested.

    Trilobite,

OK, I'm now registered, and I have found the start of the discussion on the Guardian Talkboard.

I'm buggered if I can make out how you submit a post though, any ideas?

    E-man,

You need to get a confirmatory email before you can post. If you haven't received one, then you need to email them at the address they gave an dthey will set you up.

    Hello OldHippie,

The use of the word hypocrite was very appropriate. This is what they print in a new WT:

14 Anointed Christians are like alien residents living in tents apart from this system of things. (1 Peter 2:11) ‘Not even a plague draws near their tent.’ Whether our hope is heavenly or earthly, we are no part of the world, and we are not infected by such spiritually deadly plagues as its immorality, materialism, false religion, and worship of “the wild beast” and its “image,” Watchtower November 15, 2001. Page 19.

This they write knowing full well they are associated with the UN and have been so for 10 years. If that isn't hypocricy what is?

Can you name a better example?

    Norm.
