GreenMachine: Welcome to the forum.
The part about not having Jesus as their mediator was news to me as well. I left in 1979. I read Raymond Franz's book Crisis of Conscience some time in the '80's, and that is where I learned of the change in doctrine to Jesus' being the mediator for only the 144,000. They change all of the time, so keep an open mind. Many of the people who post here have been out only a short time. They can keep you up-to-date on the current JW policies and doctrines, if you are interested, that is.
Hope you stick around and keep learning as well as teaching us what you have learned.
Regards,
SandraC
Greenmachine, welcome and it would be great to hear more about your story.
I just re-read your second comment, and still feel that what I have writte is factual. I agree with what you that there certainly are worse religions, and many that have much to answer for. However the article is not a comparison of religion or an attempt to promote some other religious system. Whether a JW stays or leaves they lives can be improved by learning how to take control over their thinking and reasoning ability and not blindly believe the WTS to the point where their lives are manipulated with fear and guilt, or even lost due to unsound doctrine such as blood.
thanks nvrgnbk
thanks for bringing up the issue of graphic inappropo images for children...slide shows of holocaust victims w/ experiences and talks suggesting the same torment was right around the corner at any moment in the usa was very normal when i was a kid in the jws. they can freak out over a little sexual content in r-rated movies, but some of those images we were subjected to as children w/ the propaganda was worse than showing pornography to children.
i still suffer from panic attacks b/c of them, and since i was four years old i always 'knew' i was going to prison and i knew the definition of tarred and feathered while my peers were playing tag i was writhing with anxiety that i was going to die a horrible death at any moment.
I'm pretty good at spotting typos - shoulda been a proof-reader or something. I didn't read it word-for-word, but found one mistake in your heading: "Never Growing Old Or Dieing". It should be 'dying'. Content is good. One thing about the holy spirit thing tho' - wasn't there an article within the last year that made it sound like just any witness could pray for and receive holy spirit? I remember because it kinda surprised me because I knew they don't think of it like that. But then, they must have someone reading the net - I've noticed many topics that are most talked about here end up as mag. articles trying to smooth things over to the r & f - damage control. jmho.

Thanks for the response to my posts JWfacts. And thanks for the welcome to this forum, Mum. I have been coming to freeminds for years now, but never posted in the forums.
I haven't found any qoutes from WT concerning Jesus as mediator for only the 144,000. It is possible I missed it. If you could point me to it, that would be great. Also, I have always been told by my parents to pray for holy spirit in times past. I would appreciate any references to what the society's literature says about that as well. But thanks for the excellent information in your document.
My Father was an Elder and Presiding Overseer for many years until I left home, and then he was removed for not being able to control his children, (Keep them in the Truth). My Mother has been pioneering for years. My Father is once again an Elder and PO in a different congregation. I have spent a lot of time over the years trying to explain why I do not want to be a JW again. Everything I tell them is shot down with the stock JW answer, and they warn me about apostate websites, and thats only when they want to talk to me.
I really liked what you wrote about Child bearing in the time of the end. My Mother brought that up on occasion when I was a child, as if my Sister and I were such a burden. We were accidents. I was told many times that if we had never been born they would have gone into the Missionary service. My younger sister ended up disfellowshipped at 18 years old. I was never baptised, and never recieved the shunning she did. Thing is, she was baptized at the age of 11. I left what I saw as a restrictive and abusive family at 16 and I then embarked on a self-destructive streak with alcohol and drugs, and ended up in jail for 2 months for drinking and driving. My parents and Grandfather moved 350 miles away while I was in Jail. 2 years later I moved as well to where they lived to be a JW again. It was my attempt to patch things up with my family. I ended up completely stumbled, as they say, by what I was hearing from the platform in this congregation. I also found the JW's there so hypocritical and selfrightous. So after 6 months, I left only to be blackballed once again. I must say, I have never seen a people that gossip like they do.
I could go on and on. Thanks for putting all of those real "truths" down in print jwfacts.
