I've come to believe that all religions fulfill some need in some people and accepted that for some the JWs may fulfill some needs. What I object is the mind control tactics that disallow people to make their own choices. You know full well what they are and you are choosing to go back and to fellowship. From my viewpoint I can never understand, I can only respect your decision.

Fading In? Am I nuts?
Possibly,it all depends on what you are looking for. It sounds like you want to drift in some you can reignite some old friendships but the fact that you have to do this so that they will talk with you etc should give an indication of what sort of friends they are.....conditional ones who will shun you the moment you fall out of line
Do you really want that sword hanging over you, being careful what you say ALL the time, the fact that you left will mark you for close observation

So I have thought about fading back in on my own terms.
That would be nice. Unfortunately, I think you'll have about as much success in accomplishing that as you would convincing the government that you'll pay whatever taxes you personally think you should on your own terms.
It's a high control group - you'll have to eventually conform or be shunned.
