Looks like my prediction is coming true...

The WTS will not die a spectacular, honorable death. Instead, it will slowly die with a final quiet whimper, forgotten to history as a curious footnote.

    Nvr said it:

To say that it will cease to exist in our lifetime may be unrealistic.
To say that the Watchtower is losing control of its members is to state the obvious.
They lose control, the organization begins to crumble.
    It is happening.

They are going to pull some positive numbers out of their *sses by baptizing kids,
expanding their foreign language efforts in established countries, and reaching out
to developing nations. I think they only reached positive growth in active publishers
in the USA by counting 15 minutes a month from sickly and seniors.
The positive numbers will last only a few years (I am not sure
from data I've seen, but I give it 5 yrs. at the most, less in the USA.) while the
accountants continue to see less and less money coming in and cut back more and
    more.

R.F.- I would say you are in a retirement area, so the numbers are going south faster,
but you are ahead of a big trend.

No - not crumbling - but certainly a chip here and a chip there. Not the force it once was - main power is Eastern Europe and Spanish speaking.

Good to hear that this is happening in some parts of the world. In Australia however, where it seems more relaxed among the JWs, they appear to be going strong. OK so they are not bringing in the numbers like they used to and not spending so much time in FS, but from what I hear locally, the meetings are well attended, the young ones are getting baptized and they still love the CO's visit.

I feel the need to comment about this as I was going to the same congo!~~!

In 2000 when I first started at this congo, there were about 160 pubs. It was diversified and buzzing.

There were two dominating families, one now that has dwindled to almost nothing over the years. Bad feelings, hurt feelings, people treated unfairly.

This congo devoured on itself. The oldtimers there, critical of the new ones.

We do live in an area where there are alot of people moving in and out.

The people that they let continue to be elders there are worthless and drive people away. Look how long it took them to get Bro L out as the school ministry overseer, he sliced and diced, chewed up and spit out criticism for his counsel, until it was almost demoralizing. I waited to join the school till his term was over.

There was a child abuse event/scandel whatever you want to call it that also divided the congo. Some supporters of the abused child left to support that family as they moved away.

So look who they kept..........the ones that have commited the most offenses. The congo is not stupid, they see what has gone on.

I know of one family that moved away and have become very active at the congo they are assigned to now.

I know alot is happening all over for the org, but this congo is deep with problems. When the PO that is there now, steps down, it will be interesting to see what happens, as I can't see but only one elder there that could step into his position and I have no idea if he would want the position.

Besides the older ones devouring the new ones, the youth devoured each other.

Lies, coverups, powerplays, stupidity, bitterness and just plain selfishness is rampant in this congo. Enough drama for a good soap opera.

Also, the CO before this one, was wacked out, maybe a new CO can bring back the closeness this congo once had.

This is a complex issue. Currently, those in the U.S. illegally are not qualified to serve as M.S. or elders. However, no judicial action is taken. It' hard to determine how much of this has been dictated by the WTS legal department, and how much of this is left up to local congregations. Many Spanish Witnesses are here illegally, but it is because they were brought here when they were children; hence they didn't have a choice. Some, came into the U.S. illegally before becoming Witnesses.

It's a sticky issue for elders in Spanish congregations to grapple with. I know of a Spanish brother who was in the country illegally, but was allowed to become a M.S. because he was brought here as a child. Others, on the other hand who came later in life are not allowed to be appointed. It is difficult to comprehend how judicial action can be taken against those who willfully commit tax-evasion or corporate fraud, but none is taken against adults who willfully violate immigration laws (such as working "under the table" without paying certain taxes). After reading Crisis of Conscience, and reading about the "two sets of scales" that were used in the Mexico and Malawi situations, I don't even bother questioning these things anymore. Why bother trying to intellectualize analyze why a used car saleman does what he does?

You know they always said how the states were not "as appreciative" for the truth as new countries. I think now it is more a matter of having computers

and learning what is out there. It is most intresting how those more well informed do fall away. But hey... its just because we all got it too easy
