We never did. My mom always said it was too hard because she would have to do it without my dad. I always wanted to just to see what it was like in other congregations but it's just as well I didn't waste my vacation time. She definitely made sure all the family studying got done though, I would have loved to have left all the meeting prep at home as that was nearly as bad as the actual meetings with the added issue that I couldn't daydream as much without her noticing.
and my dad always made us say where the scripture was from. So us kids never really listened to the "food" presented by the society b/c we were to busy repeating the scripture in our heads for when he asked. LOL.
Thank you so much, Minu. As "spiritual head" of my family, I'm going to incorporate that fine teaching technique on the few days that I actually crack open the Daily Text with the fam.
As for meetings on vacation, we were fairly hit-and-miss when I was a kid. Seems like if we made a huge cross-country trip, we might hit one if it was convenient. (Probably just so the folks could brag about it when we got home.)

So how many of you actually attended meetings when you went away on holidays? Remember, you shouldn't take a holiday from Jehovah!
Never. Even as a believing Dub, the only time we ever stepped foot into a KH while on holidays, was for the Memorial. About 3 years ago when I still went occassionally to the meetings and assemblies, my father was talking to a brother he had known for 50 years and they were talking about their holidays. My parents never go to the meetings while on holidays and I don't blame them. It came up in the conversation as they were talking about holidays. This self-righteous, pompous fool said to my dad that he and his wife "never miss a meeting while on holidays". Dad told me afterwards that this 'loving brother' used to run scam business to do with buying and selling second hand cars when he was about 25 or 30 years old.
In the 80's many of the younger Dubs would go on weekend ski trips and dude ranches.
The elders made sure that since we were all teenagers to early 20's, an elder and MS had to go along to conduct the Sunday Spytower meeting.
Of course many of us were too tired from partying the night before, so attendance was about 50% of the people on the trip.
It makes no sense tome now, althogh at that time, I thought it was a good thing.
My father & sister recently visited. Sister went to Memorial, but no other meeting. Father said each day..."I'll think I'll go to Field Service/Meeting tomorrow." I offered to drive him to/from the KH. Each day, he changed his mind. Seems he needed a vacation.

We went some times if it fit into our driving schedule. I wondered about the "brothers/elders" with jobs on the road who said they were going to meetings. I know for a fact that at least half never darkened the door of a KH.

Some time ago, I took my wife to a workshop I had to go to in Dallas. We get there and while I'm at the workshop, she spends the whole day looking for the closest kingdumb hall. She finds it, get directions, and then wants to waste time driving it, to see how close it was to where we were staying, as if there is not anything better to do. I was pissed, my face showed it, and she dropped her attempt to waste any of my time there waiting for her while she prepares for and go to a meeting.
Whenever we go anywhere out of town, she always tries to insert her WT schedule into anything planned. She'll pack up her meeting clothes, books, load down the car taking them along, finds a KH nearby, but never has she attempted to really go.
I think it's all a show and subconsciously she really doesn't want to go....it's all for appearances sake just in case the "friends" ask. Or it might be that she knows that if I have to spend any money to take her somewhere long distance and she insists on any of the fun being interrupted by a WT meeting, that that will be the last time I take her anywhere.
We made a point of finding the hall and going to the meetings 'as a witness' to her relatives.
Oh Dave, I thought this was sooo funny, you were trying to give a good witness on your honeymoon.
What a good dub you must have been.
Instead of being impressed, I bet your worldly relatives just thought you were nuts.
