Yes, spelling doesn't actually interfere with what's being written, but it can divert attention on the receiver's end away from what is being communicated. It's like looking at someone with food stuck between their teeth as they are talking to you; yes, you hear the words, but how much attention is being paid to them? It's my feeling that if you want to be clear in what you are trying to say then make it as easy as possible for the other guy; it is aggravating having to negotiate a badly written statement.
