Most chronically poor spellers know who they are.
For them, what Stilla said is good advice:
Compose off line , spell check and then cut and paste
Even if you're pretty good at stringing words together, I think Terry makes a good analogy with dress and hygiene. If we at least take a minute to do a quick proof-read, it's like running a comb through your hair and slapping on some BO juice.
I do think JK666 strikes a good balance with this observation:
I am not writing a doctoral thesis! I am communicating.
Side point to Terry: What's your opinion of slang and abbreviations? FWIW, IMHO, U R, etc.
And finally, just to make Terry and Jgnat (another self-admitted spelling Nazi) cringe, I'll attach this. You've probably already seen it, but here goes.
