Would studying the Bible be grounds for divorce? What exactly would the study sin be called?
I'd like to hear someone try to get around logic like that!
Well done.

Do you see why an article such as this makes we wonder all the more, instead of reassuring me?
I like that you ask this question at the end of your illustration. It puts the ball in her court, in a way. You're not trying to force her to believe what you are saying, but asking her if she can understand why you doubt. In order to answer your question, she is put in the position of trying to see things from your point of view. Excellent!

jgnat - i love the way you think - when my jw family asks me, if i confirm that they really want to know , then forward I can go.
this entire thread is so helpful- the illustration is bang on- it allows the jws natural defenses to be down before they realize that if THIS make sense, what about its obvious comparison to their belief
sir82,
Thank you so much. This is exactly the line of reasoning I need to use on my wife.
This is like that "food at the proper time" thing, only for real. (Bite me, FDS)
a few months ago, my son-in-law stated if the WT was part of the UN it would shake his faith, it,s a lie, satan trying to mislead, you can not believe everything written
in news paper. That was around 10-11 months ago. I was told two weeks ago he no longer attend the meetings. It takes time if they still have a workable brain.

Very good point, jam. And congratulations on gaining back a son-in-law.
That logic is completely false!
You are forgetting that the FDS is 'directed by Jesus right hand of power' (WT Apr 1 07 pg. 24).
You are applying the human ability to lie and be wrong to God. God is never wrong and his organization therefore cannot be wrong. It may seem like they're wrong but that is your imperfect eyesight.
Truly, love the illustration. I really really like it. It makes the whole concept of trusting the WTS personal. Thank you for posting it.
Oh and to all using the "FDS" to refer to the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses let's not be confusing to people. They are not the FDS spoken of in the Bible! Thanks Core88
