I wasn't allowed to call the police on my unbelieving, abusive husband or to divorce him. I was told by the elders ...You can't bring reproach upon Jehovah's name...Be like that wife in proverbs...Cook his favorite foods... Keep your house spotless...Get out in Service more...Don't skip any meetings. This was after showing up at an elders house 2 doors down from my houseminutes after I had being nearly strangled to death and with finger mark bruises on my neck for the second time!
F*** them! I did divorce him...Best thing I ever did. Then I left the JWs...second best thing I ever did.

Basically not live!
I was very athletic as a youth, but wasnt allowed to join in any after school sports.
Wasnt allowed to go to any school dances.
No music other than what was allowed.. (radio taped to one station only)
Wasnt allowed to have a friend outside of the organization.
Wasnt allowed to plan for the future by taking career courses in school. (the world was ending anyway I was told, so no point in focussing on such things)
Wasnt allowed to go to a movie theatre, first time I went I was 15.
Wasnt allowed to watch tv, other than lawrence welk, little house on the prairie, and national geographic type shows.
Wasnt even allowed to go to most congregation youth gatherings.
The list goes on.. and on and on..
Basically the worst was being made to believe there was no point in planning for a future, and aquiring a decent career. I would say that was the one that affected the later years the most. And due to the brainwashing, it took a long time to think that life was going to go on.. so therefore took a long time to actually get anywhere career ways, or actually start living a life. So much time lost, today I think of what I could have become out of interest and the smarts for it.. a historian, sociologist... it's not to late.. but so much time wasted.
This topic is a major for me.. ticks me off all the losses.

Think Critically...
Now that I've been away for so long, the mind-control has worn off...lol
I feel like the guards of the wicked witch of the west who came out of their spell after Dorothy killed her.

my biggest beef was i couldn't play football. i was always big and athletic. i had the coaches literally begging me to play. i literally begged my parents. but, i was never allowed to play. i could have had a full scholarship, at the very least. who knows, i may have gone pro. instead, i had to work 2 jobs to put myself through school to be a mechanic. i love my job, but, it crushes me everytime i watch a game, wondering what could have been.
now, here's the kicker. a player for the n.f.l. became a witness here. had priveleges, gave talks. he never had to give it up. in fact, the "brothers" espically elders would talk to him about the season all the time. he was "allowed" to miss meetings, and no one said anything. he got traded, i don't know who he plays for now, and i don't begrudge him, it just pissed me off i had to let go of my dream, and he was put up on a pedastal.

I missed the Disco era. They even had some lingerie/pajama dance nights at a club near me- darn it, I sure wanted to try that out. I finally did go night clubbing/dancing 20 years later after I had left the WT- but no PJ's this time.-
