Being on an aeroplane that was hijacked by the PLO and watching them shoot a young man in the head, then wondering if I was going next.

    Jesus Christ - HS -really?

I remember being a smarty pants and skipped taking the school bus home, it was a nice day and I decided to walk. I was a first grader and had no idea where I was going and got lost. Mom had raised a posse and a neighbor found me.

When I was 12 the gym coach was teaching us to swim at the chaotic muni pool. Some bigger boys grabbed me and held me under a couple of times in rapid succession. When I got free I resolved to never get in a pool again. I got past that extreme vow but I have never learned to swim and I am not comfortable in water I can't stand up in.

Having four wood splinters smashed into my cornea and not being able to see out of it for over two weeks. Only having one working eye was some scary stuff and I could not drive and had alot of collisions around the house. That little accident was very sobering how fast your life can change.

Being held at gunpoint by a drunk homeowner while camping in the woods.

Over 20 years have passed and it still scares me to think about it.

    Hillary!

I remember back in the early 1980's I think, hearing an experience of a brother who was on a plane hijacked by terrorists. I can't remember if I read it in one of the mags or heard the experience from the platform. Were you the brother in that experience?

That is a once in a life time story that's for damn sure!

    Stilla,

    Jesus Christ - HS -really?

Yes. Strangely enough, this Board is one of the few places that I have ever discussed it with anyone (I wrote about it a few years ago). Even my wife does not know the details.

It happened a few years after I had witnessed a woman murdered in full daylight with a shotgun (jealous boyfriend) and these were probably two of the most impacting experiences of my early years.

We all live one second away from the grave.

    Best regards - HS

No, though I remember that article well for obvious reasons. I think he was Greek JW and the assault troops bungled the rescue, choking many of the passengers to death with the smoke grenades meant to incapacitate the terrorists.

So true! We must let death be our advisor. Still, I'm glad you lived to tell the tale!

ps: I can't top Hillary's story (can anybody?) but when I was six, I was abducted from my school yard by a pedophile and taken into the nearby woods. I tricked him and escaped and ran home as fast as I could and never told a soul. I was more afraid of getting a beating from my parents for talking to a stranger than I was of the pedophile! Oh, and that year, on Sports Day, I won 1st place in the 100 yard dash!
