Watkins: Think about it, oompa --- just because they claim it's the ONLY TRUE religion doesn't make it so. I'd say the proof shows otherwise. For God to remove His blessing, He would've first had to have bestowed it. Looking at the history, I don't think the benefaction ever happened.

Sorry if it is 1918, I can never remember so set me straight Gopher. JW's have so many dates in their teachings, it's like Obves created it. Watkins posted this from another thread and made an interesting point.

How can a JW or wannabe JW find out what Dubs were teaching during the time of Jesus global exam of religions, and pick one to make his own, which is the JW teaching???? The Climax book just taught this I believe.

It takes study and research, but where, how? The WT CD only goes back to 1950. My congregation has very little early 20th century literature. The Sept. KM said to only study WT material, so that means we have to read the Proclaimers book and believe what THEY SAY they were teaching in 1900-1919.

I would really like to make a list of all the teachings from this period, and show them to my family. I may need original copies to highlight or copy, or else they will immediately accuse me of finding the information from Apostate sources. If anyone has some type of list I would like it..so I do not actually have to read 19 years of this literature!! But I would still need original literature to show that went to the ACTUAL source to find the answer to this question.

willing to pay....thanks much....oompa...I will later make my list available

    Oompa,

If I remember correctly, they didn't realise at the time (1919) that they were being inspected... it was only later that they "realised", so you may not need to go back that far after all.

I have quite a bit of old literature, and would be happy to scan it it you need.

Also, you can find to old old Watchtowers here, via a Wikipedia link

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Watchtower

Scroll to the bottom, then take a look at the last two links

Thanks Alpha, but what counts is what Jesus would have "inspected" in 1919, so I really want the teachings and literature at or prior to that grand inspection. I think I need to start there. Let me know if you have any from that time.

    thanks much...oompa

I do have some literature (a couple of the millenial dawn books), and only have scans of the Watchtowers from then.

Take a look at the links on the Wiki article. there are PDFs of all the old Watchtowers to download

Since I am now on the outside looking in, I can be a little more objective on this.

I believe that they had a very brief period (up to a few years) when they first started out, during which the organized was composed of sincere individuals searching for truth. It quickly morphed into a business entity who sought to control members by various levels of bureaucracy.

To this day, there are still some sincere individuals in the organization, but the result is still the same -- no blessing as the True Religion. There is too much evidence to the contrary (lying about various scandals, etc.) The True Religion does not have to lie about anything.

Madtiger, my thoughts are similar. I tried starting with the fact that the NWT Bible if full of falsehoods. Come on! If your own Bible is false, what can your current teachings be?????.....no luck....oompa

I agree that they were sincere (if deluded) in the beginning... then Rutherford took control of the ship and used it for his own gain...

When speaking with JWs I have used the page in the Revelation Book that mentions that 1914 was predicted in the early days... then compared it with the lit from the time to prove that the current teachings are full of lies.

The JW accepted this... but still it meant nothing to him ?????

Alpha, I am looking for that 1914 quote on the cd. The first one I found only says they were doing this for 40 years, but I think that is right as far as it ending the Gentile Times. Isn't there another that says they were predicting Jesus return, which would be impossible since they were saying he came in 1874?

Funny line I did find though, we blast Christendom for not "welcoming our Lords's return in 1914" when not only did we not see it, but I think were teaching that he had already come, and that the world would end in 1914!!!!

***rechap.13p.69par.11BuyGoldRefinedbyFire***. In championing Bible truth, these Christians proclaimed Jehovah’s Kingdom as mankind’s only hope and Jesus’ ransom sacrifice as the basis for salvation. Almost 40 years ahead of time, they pointed to 1914 as the year marked in Bible prophecy as the end of the times of the Gentiles, when civil and ecclesiastical powers would be shaken.—Revelation 1:10; Luke 21:24-26, KingJamesVersion.

, Christendom’s religionists were lukewarm to an appalling degree. Instead of welcoming our Lord’s return in 1914, her clergy got embroiled in the slaughter of World War I,

In the 1922 Watchtower, there are a whole lot of teachings that they do no longer teach, for instance the years 1799 and 1874, and that C.T. Russel was the FDS. At this time, they also celebrated Christmas among other things now 'banned'.

(I'm sure these things are in earlier Watchtowers as well, but 1922 is the one I'm currently looking into)

Point is, they were chosen by Christ at this point, according to them.

Here are two scans - I have decided not to mark the text, so you'll have to read the text in its entirety.

Of course - this may be proof to us, but an active Witness will most likely not believe it unless they're reading the actual magazine in the library at Brooklyn...
