Well, I'm just glad I didn't get too involved in the whole Trevorgate idea.
I am thankful for your learned perspective, Lady Lee!
One of the contributing factors was that we are just not familiar with this type of fraud.
At the time that "Linda" died, I related the whole story to someone I know who is involved in the computer industry. The first thing he said was, "Are you sure it's real?" I was just staggered at this response and tried to defend myself. But apparently it's very common and usually includes dramatic events at times of possible exposure.
Thanks, LL. Trust and safety are such important issues for us; it is a major challenge for me to feel safe and trusting, especially now, but time heals.
LadyLee..Once again you prove yourself to be a sweetheart....What did I learn?:..Some people will do anything for attention.Positive, negative it doesent matter..Not everybody that dies, was alive to begin with..And..PurpleSofa sent a pair of earrings,so Trev would look good in his Evening Gown!..LOL!!...OUTLAW
I, for one, did not get involved with the Trevor incident because I tend to stay focused on exposing the Watchtower Society (which was my main reason for joining in the first place).
The Danny Haszard incident did affect me a bit more. The original situation with the pepper spray was not really my business, and I did not know how many warnings they had or if they were pushing him to his breaking point. But, his subsequent actions suggest that he is in a crisis situation. Any action that would undermine those trying to ruin the Watchtower Society would only work against his own interests. I still support his attempts to ruin the Watchtower Society, but I hope he will get past the current situation. That incident did more to teach me that he is just human, with real feelings like anyone else, and that even the most dedicated apostate will occasionally do things that work against their best interests.
We can, however, learn that pepper spray is not necessarily the best way to strike back at the Witlesses. Better would be to take a copy of Crisis of Conscience or some other apostate material and produce that. Using that, one might see the Witlesses running off even faster than a physical attack. At the very least, that would have had a chance of sowing one more apostate seed. That is one thing we can come out of that incident with, regardless of what happens next.
Troll incidents were not that personal for me. I did have trolls on a board that I became an administrator on last year (most of them were banned by the time I joined it). We did have a person that had three separate usernames (the same account), and attacked a thread I did on a Christmas tree. He was placed in quarantine for that. He had been placed in quarantine prior for a different incident, and quickly ended up back in quarantine soon after release for picking another fight on another Christmas thread. I understand that things like this happen on all boards, and hopefully the mods act to keep it from doing too much damage. Usually, people like that will get banned in time.
Reminds me of the Caspian Saga also
Aren't we grateful, as a lasting xJW "community," to be authoritatively entitled to feel what we feel and think what we think, and to have the lines between "normal," "sick" and "abusive" clearly set in Internet marble by the ever-increasing light of psychology?

One scam does not demean the members of the board: it highlights thier openess and responsiveness and, well....love....
This board represents the coolest bunch of people I have ever met.
One person told me, when I was telling her about "apostates:" "It looks like the WT looses the best."
She is right, you know.....
I agree totally. The posters here are really great and for the most part very supportive of others who come here.

I didn't get involved in it either. I've been too busy doing other things. But it was sad to see so many other people get used that way

How interesting that he made that remark. Come to think of it I have seen it on a different board. Sometimes being an outsider makes it easier to see through the muck and mire

That trust issue is a huge one. I suspect even if Trevor did come back and aplolgize few people would trust him - for good reason.
BTW Trevor has NOT been banned from JWD. He has the opening to come in and explain himself.

Glad you learned a few things but frankly I don't want to see him with fancy earrings

There has been a lot of criticism of Danny - some going as far as threatening bodily harm. I am totally against those kinds of threats.
However I do understand the anger behind it.
Those who threatened bodily harm are traveling the same road Danny was on. Pushed far enough a lot of people might turn their anger into action.
I would suspect that many who did post threats would never act on them. That doesn't make the threats right but it sure demonstates the level of outrage people have regarding Danny's actions.

Yup another example that it has been done before.
He has the opening to come in and explain himself.
I think that he should. Maybe that would be progress in his own recovery, if that is what he seeks; however, I suspect he must be seeking something else, since he has not bothered to apologize or explain, but has just taunted, as far as I know. I wonder if the check to Grace will be good.
