Difference Between Catholics and Witnesses

Catholic priests keep confessionals sacred and secret. Confession is voluntary.

JW's and Elders blab it to the whole neighborhood and hold court over it. Confessions are sought after by bored elders.

I grew up as a witness. I remember JW parties including dancing, camping trips, beach days, Disney World and other theme parks in groups...There were sports, picnics, biking in groups...Going to the movies, tubing, roller skating...I mean you guys make it sound like JW's do absolutely nothing for their kids.....That isn't the case always..

That was then. I think sometime during the 1980s they started phasing these activities out. First went the roller skate parties. Then the theme parks. Then the beach days, camp trips, picnics, and the like. By the mid 1990s, they have been stripped out. And they have strict guidelines about the size of gatherings that were not in place during the early 1980s. They may be trying to return to having these activities in some areas, but the hounder-hounders and hounder-hounder-hounders have their task to stomp out such activities.

Besides, none of these ever took the place of a meeting. When they held these events, it was always on a Saturday afternoon after field circus was done for the day. They never held a gameout, picnic, or party in place of a meeting. Even when they had slide shows, it was always when the hounder-hounder was in, and usually if not always an extra trip to the Kingdumb Hell. Rarely was there anything that stood in for a meeting or day of field circus.

I have just spent the last 6 months renting a room in a home where the landlady is studying to become a Catholic. She has been sharing with me her adventure.

She claims Catholics no longer have to go to confession. They dont even call it confession any longer.

She claims the Catholic church is focusing on God's love these days.

Many of the sacraments have changed a bit.

Anyway, I like what I am hearing from her regarding the Catholic Church.

In fact I am going this morning. I just moved to a new town and am in need of someplace to go an pray and commune with God.

11:30 mass is in English and so I am going.

After 7 years I continue to feel so much pain over my disfellowshipping. I need to pray and feel God is listening and cares for me. Life is too hard and cold and cruel for me to exist without thinking the
creator cares for me and you and everyone.

If the Catholic Church can help me to feel this way again I would be so grateful.

(By the way, you can Google St. Nicholas and find a wealth of info on that saintly man)

And an XJW named Jeff has a website just for XJWs interested in the Catholic church.

Does anyone remember that website address? Catholicxjws???????

Ps..........on Jeff's website he had a long discourse from the Vatican on God's Love. I was delighted and astonished at the depth and clarity and pure spiritual beauty of that discussion. Look it up. You might enjoy it too!

I just became inactive this last year. Every christmas and New Year's there are out of the city trips planned by many from the congregation. Some go to a country club for the holiday and others go camping on the beach. Perhaps you are correct in saying it depends on the area. I was in the States and now I live in south America but in both my areas the witnesses did plenty of activites. That's probably why I stayed one as long as I did. the Social Club aspect.

    Tula,

Good point. Generally speaking a priest is a priest for life. When he gossips it is usually only to other priests. With the JWs it is a whole different story. For one thing, the elder or ministerial servant may be removed or step down. What then happens to all the confidences people entrusted them with? Will this be kept confidential?? Hell, no. I hate to break it to you but their wives end up finding out many things and they can be counted on to blab it to many people. They, in turn, will tell others.

Also, what happens if some ministerial servant steps down and goes out with his friends. Can he be counted on to keep quiet?

You are at the mercy of these people's discretion and this is assuming they even have any.

    LHG

P.S. I am also of the opinion that the JWs were jealous of the RC church and as time goes on they are emulating them.

Ditto - my father used to tell my mother details of judicial meetings. When she died, he started telling me.

Witnesses are the more logical of the two.Though maybe not the smarter of the two. The verdict is still out on that one.

    HI Quandry,

Regarding Saint Nicholas, he was the Archbishop of the See of Myra, the capital of Lycia (Antalya, Trukey today). A strong opponent of Arianism, he was present at the Council of Nicea in 325 CE.

His feast day (marking his victory in death) is celebrated by liturgical churches on December 6. He is invoked as the patron of bakers, pawnbrokers, and children. Due to his characteristic virtue of concern for the poor, legends grew around the telling of his history that inspired the Santa Claus we know today.

While liturgical celebrations of his feast are sometimes connected with Christmas, they are actual part of the celebration of Advent (Christmas is a Twelve Day celebration beginning at sundown on the 24 th of December and ending on sundown of the day of Epiphany —like the song of that title and unlike commercial Christmas which celebrates from Thanksgiving up to December 24 th and then stops).

The current view of the fat and jolly Santa Claus in the red suit comes from secular drawings of him from the 1800s; and while the legend that the advertising genius of the Coca-Cola company was responsible for his current secular state is false, they are mainly responsible for making the now-standardized view of him a mainstay of commercial holiday celebrations.

I don't think this is totally accurate. I was looking into Catholicism pretty deeply after leaving the JWs, in fact I was born into a Catholic family and had my first communion at about age 6, so when I went back, I was still considered a 'full fledged Catholic' by the church.

If you don't go to confession, you are not supposed to go to communion. You are supposed to attend every Sunday mass, in fact it's considered a mortal sin to miss Sunday mass (meaning that if you miss Mass and don't get to confession and get absolved of this 'sin' before you die, you will go to hell.)

If you go to www.catholic.org and search for mortal sin or whatever else you want to know, you'll get a lot of info. That site is extremely informative.
