A moment of silence is not a belief system

A moment of silence supports a religion, which is a belief system.

I guess my problem is I never saw it that way

Unfortunately, the horse has left the barn. Because of the history of school prayer, any similar ritual prescribed by law (even those that don't have the word "prayer" in it) would inevitably be linked to religion.

I don't like that little kids are used as pawns in a political game. They should have never even passed this law in the first place (IMHO).

I still dont get it...........Maybe I will grow some brain cells that make me understand during a good nights sleep. I am trying to understand. As it does seem to be a very big deal in Illinois.

Gopher, As an athiest, does it bother you to have 15 secs of silence?

    In general, silence is golden.

However, the way it is being imposed in this case is very reminiscent of school prayer. I don't think a government has any business imposing meditation/prayer time on children in schools.

I simply view it as pointless.

And I'm opposed to pointless rules.

Once you can explain why 15 seconds of blue should not be required, I'll explain why 15 seconds of silence should not be required.

And once you explain why 15 seconds of silence is a good idea, I'll explain why 15 seconds of blue is a good idea.

But IMO, one is just as pointless as the other, and they don't deserve a place in a rulebook.

Historians from the future will look back at this rule and say: "What the crap was that about?"

I think it is just as it states

    a moment of silence

    15 secs to be silent.

I think they will eventually work around this, through this and be able to do it without all the friction.

But I want to study about it more, I dont know enough, obviously.

So do they seal off the room and make it COMPLETELY silent/sound-proof? No birds chirping, or traffic, or wind, or air conditioners?

That might be kind of cool, it's rare to experience total silence.

But if it's just: "Okay kids, now shut up for fifteen seconds!" That's pointless.

(Then again, a whole room filled with just blue furniture and blue walls would be neat as well!)

That has got to be the most idiotic lawsuit ever. What the heck is wrong with 15 seconds of silence? how does that harm anyone?

Some of these radical atheists wont stop until every tradition in our country has been destroyed and perverted.

15 seconds of silent time is harming his daughter? Please, try living your life as a JW and have your whole family ripped apart, and then to add insult to injury, have the constitution back the society to our detriment.
