Judge won't block 'Moment of Silence'

I can see the benefit for a moment of silence.

It provides a transition from the noisy bustle of the school corridors and playground, and sets a tone for calm in the classroom and readiness to learn.

How the individual child chooses to calm themselves is up to them - if prayer helps them calm down, then it's fine. If meditating on their bellybutton helps them calm down, then fine. As long as the kids and/or teachers who pray don't impose their their manner of "silence" on the ones who use other forms of reflection to calm themselves (and vice versa), I have no issue with it.

And nobody as far as I can tell is doing this.

Not that this is the most important issue on the planet, but for discussion sake - I must comment.

This 15 seconds is not "calm down" time after recess. It's to be a morning ritual, imposed by the state government. And that's what's wrong with it.

What's more important, "tradition" or the constitutional right to not have a form of religion established or imposed by a government? There IS something wrong with a moment of silence if the law mandating it contains the word "prayer".

You can take lemons and make lemonade or you can take lemons and sue someone for imposing their dang lemons on you.

ie you can figure the 15 minutes CAN BE a time of reflection for your kids regardless of what the intent of others might be and turn it into something positive or you can sue someone for imposing 15 dang minutes of silence on your kids.
