JWs have never been able to do the maths anyway (or bother to understand) - they just trust that those above them can...when the maths changes, nothing changes to them...
Do Witnesses Care About Chronology Anymore?

I don't think the R & F do, even though we ALL know it's the foundation to their whole belief system in the FDS.
Sadly, I heard today from a dear friend who told me last month he "loves me no matter what" (we'll see won't we) who was finally appointed an elder. We chatted about it this morning and he feels his place is to bring comfort where he can and an encouraging word. I congratulated him and told him I know he wants to make a difference from the inside. So he could care less about "607," or whatever.

The religion has its roots in Millenialism and most Witnesses and even Russellite loved their chronology.
Yes, it is Millerite by way of Second Adventists. Even the splintering when Rutherford siezed power is similar to previous Millerite-descended groups splintering at the Great Disappointment (again, a prediction of Christ's coming that didn't happen - isn't the explanation of an "invisible" coming so much more convenient?), or when Smith won the greater number of Mormons.
The whole point of the Second Adventist movement was the prediciton of Christ's coming, and with this it's easy to explain the JW fixation of the end of this system of things. It's a great way to sweep in the disenfranchised or the hopeful (and the gullible, yes) with a promise of this evil system is being done away with by Christ. I've often been asked why the JWs seem to talk about the end of the world so much - well, it's kinda obvious, innit? It's their reason for existing and their mechanism of getting converts! What else do they have? OK, aside from "no Hell".
But wait...there IS Hell - the Hell of being shunned by family and friends if you so much as disagree with a group of old men on the East Coast who have appointed themselves as arbiters of God.
Sorry...off point...the scary thing is that they SHOULD be concerned about chronology, it really is the whole point of the faith - knowing when Christ is coming and the end of the world will occur. This ever changing date is the only little thing that's so worrisome (We can predict the future! Really! Um...maybe not exactly...but Real Soon!)

Even if the mathematics and the history are too difficult, the issue to me is that the WTS deliberately and consistently misrepresents, misquotes, and uses selective partial citations to prop up its false foundation.
The issue as always is "trust", and if an organization stoops to low and unChristian behavior to blind its followers, there is no reason that any should have any trust in them.

Why have I never seen the Society comment on why the hey Jah would let satan hang out in heaven for 4000 years after calling him a liar and wreaking havoc on all mankind (esp poor Job). yep, satan got to go to heavenly meetings still. then he kills Jesus I guess and STILL gets to hang out in heaven for 2000 more?!?!?! What do the other angels think? what do we think??? does anybody think?......oompa

hey minimus...can you tell me about the chronology here.....it has been a botherment to me.
In some scripture it talks about the time of the end being a great tribulation such as has never been before in the world. The gnashing of teeth and weeping and famine and disaster, blah blah.
And then other scriptures say last days are as the days of noah, everyone making merry.... feasting, drinking wine, partying, carrying on with celebrations...and took no notice of anything about to happen and then BOOM.
So minimus, can you shed some new light for me? Does it mean that cronologically making merry and then boom great tribulation happens?
Or does it mean only some will have experience of great distress while it does not affect others (maybe different part of the globe)?
how do the JWs explain that jesus came in 1914 when the scriptures say that EVERY EYE will see him when he returns?
Wish somebody could give me a serious answer here and fix the cronology for me.

Good times is supposed to brig about the worst of times. Everyone's supposed to think all is well until the Great Trib comes along and BAM! it's too late.
Every eye SPIRITUALLY saw him, those with holy spirit and eyes of discernment.

It's not about how you get there, just as long as the end result is the same.
JWs are fixated on the emotional hype surrounding end time propchey. It has little to do with their explanations on how they arrive at such conclusions. -

Another thing that always bothered me: Why kick Satan down to us? We don't want him here. It's like Jah was foisting his problem child upon us.
For the life of me I couldn't see conditions being that much worse after 1914 and Satan's supposed debasement.
Crazy, mixed-up religion!
