and she said Jehovah will sort them out ,what a cop out.

How can anyone say that, without thinking of the victims, the innocent children. Lets screw up tens of thousands of children, and then Jehovah will sort them out!!!!

Why not expose them, keep them away from kids .........SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THE GOD GIVEN BRAINS WE HAVE!!!!

If I were the creator of mankind, and they couldn't use their brains any better than they do........eating a little ole apple off a tree and the repercussions from that would be very mild.

It's one thing to believe in all the JW crap about paradise and the sacrifices and stupid things we did to stay in, but to turn ones head to children being molested is an entirely different matter. (not exclusively picking on your wife llbh)

I am not impressed at all that the WT is handling things differently in the pediphile cases. What they did was not from any organization that The Supreme Creator of the Universe would back. They are fooling themselves and all that follow them.

I hope just one person can take this example of how Oprah handled this situation and compare it to the JW's and be able to use the powers of reasoning for them to see how corrupt the organization really is.

I would like to hear one of them tell me/us/you that their KING, Jesus Christ.......that this is all the better than he can do?

What his reasoning is on letting children go on being victims. Not providing healing, a safe place for them?

    Hi Purps,

I know you were not picking on my wife. she doesn't,(she never use the Internet) my point was to illustrate the level of control that the society has on people, and how dangerous it is for victims of abuse. I have said that the elder arrangement is like a black box; that we all know it exists, but have no little idea of what goes on inside, it is also totally unchallengeable no wonder people find it difficult to obtain justice. As you say would Jesus behave like this- i don't think so?

    regards llbh

Isn't it amazing that ONE 'WORLDLY' WOMAN can handle this in an intelligent, empathetic and responsible way that sends a powerful message to the whole world yet GOD'S ORGANISATION can't get it right?

This is the number one reason I lost faith in god.

I had the same thought, that the GB should take an example from her, but they won't.

I truly admire her and record her show everyday to be sure I don't miss any of them. I hope I am learning a thing or two from her example.

I was watching a news program the other night, about her press conference, and they had an African reporter talking from South Africa, and she said that Oprah has been deeply criticized in that country since the beginning of her efforts to build her school. They evidently didn't like it that an American celebrity was coming in to change their culture, so many of them feel this is what would happen and she should have expected it. I had never heard that anyone didn't want the school to happen.

There is a transcript of her press release at her site.

It is 24 pages long and I have not taken the time to read it, but I will. Should be interesting.

This is in no way a criticism of Oprah who seems to have done well BUT you cannot tar a far larger organisation with the same brush.

If Oprah was running thousands of small schools and an unspecied number of them were suspected of child abuse it would not be possible to sweep in with a team of specialists and 'clean house.' If the GB or RC or any religion had only one establishment to look after then clearing up paedophile issues is an achievable aim. When an organisation is fragmented over a huge area and with many millions of workers you can just forget it. The law makes the GB make the payouts (i.e. its a cheap shot to say the GB are hoarding money to pay out rather than solving the issue) and I've seen plenty of JW (and to be fair other religions) make it absolutely obvious that child abuse is awful. I agree that there are some beliefs that inadvertantly encourage it (two witness rule and for the RC the non-married clergy with access to choir boys) but in reality ALL organisations are prone to it simply because individuals who have these problems exist in our community.

Let's put this in context - most child abuse happens within families NOT within churches or any organisation. Most churches (if not all) strongly teach against it and provide tools (albiet often clumsy or naive) to help overcome or more importantly avoid it. The only way that I can see the WT being culpable is in the application of the two witness rule in addition to the desire to protect the larger church family from censure which before anyone hoots up about is exactly what many families do (they often close ranks instead of exposing the paedophile - its only modern day society that is changing this trend.) Child abuse is inexcusable and those guilty (the individuals involved) should be made to pay the highest price but we should all stop wildly looking to blame organisations that have very little control and only play a very small part in the whole despicable event.

The GB won't learn anything, cause they are in the grand scheme of things.....irrelevant.

I would just like to comment on how saddened and angry I am that this one individual has ruined the lives of some poor young girls and tarnished my country by her terrible actions. This is a country that has come a long way in a short time and what this one woman has wiped out so much good that has been done by so many great people her in SA.

I do applaud Oprah's response though and truly believe that she will follow through on her promises.
