I got a great idea. A bus..a church bus.
It might work.

A congregation in a near by city wants to renovate the inside of the hall. The elders handed out
slips of paper asking how many in the congregation can give short term interest free loans, or
monetary gives, or how much more can you contribute monthly so they can calculate how much
work they can afford. The witnesses don't realize that if the Hall is ever sold the money goes
to the WTBTS, it does not belong to the members. It is like borrowing money from a bank for
a new house, you pay off the loan is 30 years and now the house that you paid for belongs not
to you, but to the bank. The WTBTS should give the money to the Hall for renovations, since
the hall belongs to them.
Congregations that hold the territory the building is on form a non-profit corporation with the elder body voting 3 elders to be in charge. As long as the congregation stays intact, the money would roll over into a new building. If the congregation is dissolved, or in this case the non-profit corporation, the money reverts to the parent non-profit corporation, the WTS. That's the law in the US for non-profit organizations.
I hope all those people that can't afford a car or the gas to put in it and now have to drive to the boasting sessions start skipping them all. I bet Mother will have a stroke if that happens. And, then the meager donations they put into the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund box will disappear.
That's the law in the US for non-profit organizations.
The way it is legally run is fine. A congregation has to meet somewhere, and the locals need to
pay for it. They occasionally need renovations or expansion into new buildings, fine.
Where this gets tricky is how Mother controls it. Through her circuit overseers, Mother gets a
regular report on the condition of the building and the number of people using it. If they ask the
C.O. to be a bit critical of the conditions or the need of new location, he will note that the
building needs renovating or to be sold and have the congregation move. Mother decides when
to split a congregation and when to dissolve one.
If a body of elders doesn't do as Mother says, they will all be chastised for it, and Mother will
start recommending removal of elders or dissolving of congregations.
I don't think this system is abused at the local level as much as others here do, but I think it is
starting to be the case in the U.S., and may be worse in other countries already. Mother will
manipulate the locals for her own needs- splitting a congregation will cause the need for more
buildings paid for by locals, then they can dissolve them years later and keep the money from
the building projects.
The biggest scam right now is keeping the money floating out there. What I mean is- they keep
congregations remodeling so that society funds can be "loaned out." This makes it look like
less cash is on hand, but the money comes back monthly. That way, the coffers are not always
overflowing if more lawsuits come up, or actual needs are observed. They just ask for more donations
because there is nothing on hand. Meanwhilel, the hall is kept up nicely in case they ever need to
dissolve the congregation and get the cash out of it.
The bigger scam is in the assembly halls.
Disgraceful!
If the Society were wanting to make even more money they could pressure congregations who did not need a new hall to attempt to build one. This is what happened locally. The cong did not need a new hall. There was some maintenance needed on the hall yearly but other than that all was well. So, the CO told them they HAD TO HAVE A NEW HALL. From having NO MORTGAGE at all on their hall, they went into a huge mortgage with Mother and are now struggling to pay the mortgage and the bills.
It is one of the biggest scams on the planet!
My old KH that I helped build back in 1974-5 never took out a loan with the Society. They sold their old building and borrowed short term money from a brother and then when it was finished they took out a loan from the local bank to pay him back. I was an elder for awhile and I don't recall the WTS ever being on the deed back then. As far as I know the local brothers own the building free and clear now and the deed is in the name of their local non-profit trust. Now the WTS has went into the banking business in order to get title to the property that the local brothers pay off for them. What a deal for the GB.
It is like borrowing money from a bank for a new house, you pay off the loan is 30 years and now the house that you paid for belongs not to you, but to the bank.
Actually, it's even worse: it's like the bank asking your neighbors to create an irrevocable fund to help you build a house... and then charging you interest on the neighbor's money... and the bank ultimately owning... the fund and the house. The bank never put up a dime of its own money... but used its depositors' money... and charged you interest... so that they made money on everyone else's money (the fund, plus interest)... AND still own the property in the end.
Surprised? It's what banks/other lenders DO. The WTBTS has been eeking out of the publishing business... and into the financial lending business... for decades.
Peace to you all!

I sense a special needs talk coming on . . . "Who is Involved with Secret Sin?"
Elders got to lay the blame somewhere off the backs of the wts . . .
