I was at the Sunday meeting today (I know, I know...) and I heard this one guy give a comment about how Hollywood movies always portray rich people as happy and successful, so that's proof that Satan controls the film industry because it's a lie.

I struggled to think of ONE recent Hollywood film that portrayed ANYONE as being happy, let alone RICH and happy. If they made a movie like this guy was describing, it wouldn't sell. The whole POINT of movies is that they have a conflict. That's what makes them ENTERTAINING. If it weren't so sad how ignorant witnesses are about the real world it'd be hillarious.

So let's analyze this "reasoning".

(1) Hollywoold movies always portray rich people as happy and sucessful.

(2) This is a lie.

(3) Therefore Satan controls the film industry.

Statement (1) is dubious, as has been pointed out above.

Even if statements (1) and (2) were true, how does statement (3) follow?

This is a good example of a Non sequitur.

Watchtower literature always portrays witness to be happy. So by that logic Satan controls the Watchtower. Makes sense to me.

man, i wish i was one of those people who recorded whole assemblies when i was "in"...there'd be so much actual footage of the double-speak.

A-Friggin'-MEN! the coments that I have heard have made my head spin sometimes and all most can do is like, nod and give that complacent "Mmhmm" as if what was said actually made sense.

I've come to regard the WT meeting as nothing but a motherbird vomitting in the mouth of its babies, and the babies, just letting it dribble out of the sides of their mouths, thinking its the best thing in the world because they are too young/inexperienced/blind/needy/etc. to know any better.

I remember one sister who related a story about her mother dying, which is sad, but it was about one of her children leaving Jehovah and how it is put upon the DF'd person for leaving the family and not the family actualy, you know, shunning the person! It was crayz and a part of me wanted to scream becaue you know that is not how it works out, that most people would love to bewith their families and yet still stand their ground in the felings andeliefs that differ from the WTBull$ but can't.

Comments like that get under my skin now that you know the "other sitde" of the Troof.

EDIT: And another thing! I remember one time when going over the WT and how it wa saying something about the Feminist movement that took place in the 60 and 70's and how the article was horribly wrong... but you know for a moment I actually believed *I* was wrog... even after taking a Women's Studies course and knowing about the movement, one paragraph made me believe what I knew was obviously wrong.. and more to te point, I had to thik: I *knew* about the feminist movent and I could hav easily raised my hand and pointed out how the article was wrong (and actually voiced reasonable opinions about the movement besides, 'Independant Women Bad! Grr! They think they Men, Not Good! Families Fall Apart and babies Cry! Waaah!") but I couldn't.

And even after beingon this board, it wa at that moment I realized that something is not right with that place- the power it has over your mind.. where you aren't even allowed to really think or question things... it was really a creepy yet eye-opening moment for me. So let them make crazy ass comments all they want to and read from their crazy magazine- thats how we know that things aren't right and thats how others will come to see they are not right because they trip themselves up.

Good thing I blew it off. I saw the Puketower study article, full of non sequitors and lies, in its entirity anyway. Rich people are not always miserable, and the poor are often jealous and/or envious. No matter how hard the Watchtower Society tells people not to desire to be rich, all that is going to do is turn jealousy (a person wanting to be rich) into envy (the person wanting to destroy the wealth of those already rich).

Besides, I didn't need the association with those who have been so instrumental in ruining my life.
