Soon we'll all be sounding like our grandparents.."I remember when ___________ only cost ________!

I remember just a few years ago, gas was only 1.54 and my friend from Europe came over. My other friends and I were driving around looking for "cheaper" gas. lol and he said, (as he pointed to every other gas station we passed) what's wrong with that one, or that one there, or that one. He said (at that time, not sure what it is now) gas prices in England were almost $5 dollars a gallon. I wonder what they are now .

Yep... I paid £1.11 for a litre of Diesel (not sure what you call it elsewhere).

    That's £5.05 per gallon ( $10.47) !!!!

Apparantly 70 % of that is tax.

While I was in Germany last month I filled up my friend Jesper's car and it costed 43 euro which was about $63 and he drives a Suzuki Swift.

This morning at the Shell station gas here was 3.05 a gallon for regular unleaded. I just pay it and go. I have an old Nissan Sentra. The gas prices still aren't enough for people to downsize their gas hog SUVs, etc.

fuel price goes up = transportation costs go up = food/clothing/etc prices go up... so it affects everyone in the long term.

Home made 'bio-diesel' (made from vegetable oil) seems to be raising some interest here - it costs half the price of the stuff in the petrol stations. Some vehicle manufacturers say it may invalidate your warranty if anything goes wrong with the engine because of it - but motor mechanics say the worst that can happen is your filters might get blocked and these are exchangeable (I presume!).
