She sounds like a fun kid and she sure is a cutie, I'm anxious to see the after shot too. There is nothing like a hair change to make a girl fiesty especially when it's one that we can work.

I remember when my daughter got her first perm which for her meant a spiral since her hair was so long she spent a long time in the chair getting that done, but she seemed so grown up while the change was being done, it was the first moment for me when I "got-that-tinge-my-babygirl-is growing-up".

I remember when i got my first relaxer when i was 12, i had been harressing mum for one for the longest time.

Freety, are you kin to us? I thought so when I saw the picture of your newest piercing.

Well, give your Big Sis across the Big Water a !!!

Then, tell Da Ninja if he messes with you, I'll go oomph upside his nappy head. I can say that. I-mus couldn't. Heeheehee.

Thanks for the hug Sylvia. Yep my dad's jamaican and my mum's half portugese half anglo-indian, so my hair is naturallyy very curly and thick, the relaxer takes the edge off lol.

All these girls and women getting their straightened and I spent hours getting my hair permed curly. I had my first perm at age 7. I had beautiful blonde hair with absolutely no body to it. My mom was an amateur hair dresser so she did it at home over the kitchen sink. The first perm I had done at the salon, I was 11, only curled half my hair. they put more chemical on and left it longer. End result, burnt scalp and a really really bad hair do.

In high school, I was given a spiral perm. It was wonderful. I loved my curly hair.

I hope your daughter loves her hair and some day appreciates how hard it is for Mom to let her grow up.

Um Um Um Ms. Jones ur baby girl is growing up all i can say is when doing a relaxer is making sure that it is well moisturized i'm old fashion and i use olive oil b/c the more moisture that it has the less breakage and the sun wont get the scalp dry to fast. in florida its a problem 4 me. or if it gets extremely too cold make sure t stays moisturized

another thing is when the next time u give ur daughter a touch up don't scratch her scalp b/c the dead skin acts like a shield to prevent burning on the scalp. i now its hard not to scratch the scalp prior to relaxing or perming. if i were u, u can touch up the roots every time she needs it but don't relax the entire hair u can do that every year instead.

this is optional but women like flat irons and such and some of them like to use it everyday but be warned that if u have ur hair relaxed it not necessary to straiten the hair it can really cause damage and it can thin out the hair. I only straighten my hair on special occasions or just out of the blue but not everyday. if the hair get kinky get a blow dryer that has a bush or a flat looking thinned out diffuser(i'll try to get a pic of it) and put it on the highest setting where it can like burn ur skin (but don't burn urself or ur skin LOL) and u can straighten the hair out like that and to me personally its a lot faster.

when ur daughter goes to bed wrap her hair in a wrap and cover it with pantyhose it will stay on all night just make sure it tight enough on her but don't cut off the circulation LOL. if u don't feel like putting her hair in a wrap just put the hair in the pantyhose like us see those men hangin' on the street corner.

well i'm done typin' at nineteen i know how to deal w/perms and stuff any more ? PM me

Wow, she's beautiful. I'd say she looks 4 years older than the first pic. And I do like the perm better! She must feel like a million bucks!

    Best,

Any girl who can make her big brother cry when she is only 10 will be a formidable woman! She is gorgeous already, but it is hard looking like a little girl anymore when your are 10. Crazy, huh? Cause she is a little girl.

Your story brought me back to the first time I spent the night at my friends house. She is black and I saw her do her entire hair routine, which looked SO complicated to me. I had been going to an all black church in the south bronx at the time. After watching her go through what was to me, an incredibly intricate routine, she then informed me of how infrequently she actually washed her hair (hence the scratching out, I assume). I realized that if I married any of those guys in the church, I was in for a whole new world of hair care and maintenance if I had children (especially girls!)

I got my first perm at 4. I had super long thick thick hair and it hurt SO much when they were rinsing and my head and all the hair was hanging in the sink . . .still hurts, and I have much less hair now. Just color it since while I haven't gone grey at all, my natural hair color has faded a LOT.

I can't wait to see her 'after' pic. She is only ten now, you are really IN FOR IT!

Shelly (with straight as a stick hair)
