LoverOfTruth, what a heartbreaking day it must be for you.
How long before you tell people you were once a Jehovah's Witness?

I mentioned my j-dub background as soon as it's apropriate to do so. Then I proceed to anti-witness and educate the person I am speaking with, about the dangers of cults and why I consider the j-dubs to be a mind control cult.
I even talk to some of my clients about the j-dub subject. Regardless of who you are, if I'm given the opportunity, you will get any 'earfull' from me about cults and j-dubs.
Many that I talk to are shocked to hear about families that are broken apart, or lives that are lost at the blood alter. It doesn't take long for the average person to realize the dangers involved in joining.

I save it and suprise people with it after they've gotten to know me.
They're always like "No Way!!" I don't know it that's good or bad.

I almost never discuss it. My wife's family is Jewish and most of our friends are Jewish. A JW is in the same group as any other Christian religion in their mind, so when my wife mentions to someone that I converted 5 years ago, that explains everything. Jews as a rule don't see any difference between a Baptist, Catholic or a JW- a Christian is a Christian.

I tell almost no one about my JW past.
Before I got married, I would only tell the women I dated, because I just didn't know how to respond to holidays.
I wanted them to know that I wasn't uninterested in holidays, i just didn't know the customs of what to do....
They were always pretty understanding and helped me along especially when visiting with their family and friends.
One girlfriends dad though it was odd that I didn't celebrate the holidays with my family .. he never liked me after I came clean about my past.
Smart Guy.

Sometimes I could tell the whole world that I was a JW and that I found out that they're a cult and never to join them. Other times I don't want to mention it at all because I just want to forget all about it.
Guess it is all still painful

I feel the same way about this:
Other times I don't want to mention it at all because I just want to forget all about it.
But then I guess we're all here because we can't forget about it.
There are millions of exJWs in the world that aren't on JWD. I wonder if they're forgetting about it more easily?

Welcome, Trev. I still struggle with this. I still have trouble when people ask me what I'm doing for the holidays. I usually just change the subject quickly. I've actually only told one person where I work, and he's a close friend.
