I've shared this info with my sister who isn't a baptized JW by the way, but she always mentioned the idea of possibly going back to meetings regularly and "progressing". She's always had trouble in doing so though.

She was quite shocked by it all and she didn't brush it off as being some lie made up by angry apostates and the media. I've been trying to help her see, with many other small issues about the Org, as to why i'm staying away from it all, and hopefully she'll continue to keep away too.

R.F. That is so cool you were able to talk with your sister about it. And better still it seems she has a sensitive concsience to the important issues involved here with the abuse scandal. Great work guy, you will be helping your sister save a lifetime of misery from joining the witness cult. I'm going to bump up a couple threads I made this summer about anti-witnessing to witnesses about the molestation settlements. I think it might help some here. Peace out R. F. I'm happy for you dude !

I brought my dad (DF'd Former Elder) some leftovers yesterday evening. In course of conversation I asked if he still watched 'Nightly News'. He nodded his head and sort of raised an eyebrow.

Yes. He had seen the segment Wednesday night. We had a good conversation for about 15-20 minutes.

Although my dad has not attended a meeting since about 1995, he still believes and gets uncomfortable when I badmouth the org.

Yesterday was a comfortable discussion about an uncomfortable & ugly subject.

My best hope with my dad is that he can shed the WT guilt and seek joy in his life.

I think the publicized settlement is another chip at the chains that bind his psyche.

I sent my father a short note about the amount of money taken from donations for the worldwide work to pay to victims of JW-child abuse.

I had about a 30-45 minute discussion with my wife Weds night about this. She was not overly shocked at the settlements because she has friends that we abused by elders and saw that the org doesn't do anything to help. She said that many religions tolerated this sort of behavior in the past but now things are different. I agreed this is a problem with religions in general but pointed out that the witnesses are supposed to be different (Gods channel and all). She said Paul warned about oppressive wolves arising in the congregation. However, I pointed out that the situation Paul spoke about was the "great apostacy" according to the WTS and since the appointment in 1919 of the FDS, the WTS teaches that we are in a spiritual paradise. So, I asked, which is it?

The conversation was one of the best I've had with her about the WTS. She said that I was very black and white, but I did make the point that when you claim to be Gods chosen people, that is a huge standard to live up to. Of course, the "org is not perfect" card was played. My response? Perfection isn't what I'm looking for, doing the right thing by making sure child rapists are off the street, the action that 99% of the general population would take, that's what I'm looking for.

I also told her I was upset that funds donated to further the preaching work was being used to settle these cases. She said the victims deserved to be compensated and she was glad the WTS settled! I agreed that these poor folks have had their lives screwed up and the WTS should have to pay. So, at least that was one point that we could agree on.

Not sure how this will effect her, but I do know that she did not question the validity of the claims or think it was some sort of "apostate" campaign by Satan. So, overall I hope it will lead her to question other things.

AUDESAPERE- I'm so glad you were able to talk with your dad about the news release. I feel sad for him that he still feels " guilty " over being out of the organization. I hope your discussion with him will make him feel less " guilty " about leaving a corrupt organization. Peace.

GERMAN- That's great you were able to send your dad the info on the abuse settlements. Maybe he will think about it. I'm sending my witness parents, witness daughters and witness siblings the NBC news release this next week, so we shall see what happens !

DOUBTING BRO- I'm glad you got your wife to agree on certain points in your discussion with her. Glad she saw the WTS should be liable for the settlements. Also good news she didn't think it was a smear campaign from " apostates " ! Perhaps more and more witnesses will see what it really is- a coverup from the watchtower society . Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Forgot to mention- Last night Mrs. Flipper and myself had Thanksgiving dinner at her parents house, ( they are non practicing Catholics , non practicing from 30 to 40 years ago ) really not religious, but they saw Barabara Andersons NBC report and they totally agreed it was horrible how the Watchtower society tried to hide or keep victims from getting proper help, and how these abusers kept being allowed to re-enter congregations and abuse more children ! It gave them a better chance to understand why in the last 5 years, this was one of many reasons I left the organization. We had a good amicable discussion about it over dinner for about 30 minutes. It helped my in-laws understand me a bit more as to the stand I have made in life ! So cool ! They are very supportive to me, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

So, hey you all !? Thought I'd bump this a bit and see if anyone had more feedback from witness family members to relate about the NBC child abuse news the other night. Any feedback at all ? Did you get your heads bit off about it , or are your witness family members going to thank you from the bottom of their hearts for the newscast ? LOL! Just joking. Chill. Anyway any experiences would be welcome positive or negative, we can all learn from them

I called my non-j.w. daughter just before it aired, and she watched it.

She called back after, and told me that she was glad to see that news broadcast, because she is tired of hearing her j.w. sister and her aunt bashing the catholics about the same thing.

So, some good already came out of it, because it reafirmed my daughters position against having nothing to do with that cult.

HUBERT- Wow! That is so good to hear your daughter was impressed with the information presented in the news broadcast! Cool. It might give her some firepower to come back on the witness aunt and make her question the witnesses. You just never know. At least your daughter can let the aunt know the witnesses shouldn't be criticizing the Catholics, because they are doing the same thing ! Good work, guy! Peace out, Mr. Flipper
