Mr. Flipper, I just got back from a small vacation.
I used the delay of the news to my advantage. The JW wife would not have seen the
broadcast whether it was aired Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. So I go on the internet on
Saturday to "catch up on news" and I said that I specifically wanted to know about the
cruise ship rescue in the Antarctic waters.
I tell the wife, "Look, I found something else here on NBC's video site. It's about Jehovah's
Witnesses." She watched with me because it was clearly a legitimate news source. She
was silent, and made absolutely no comments after the clip. That's good, because she would
normally say, "Well, that story is ... They report the cases to the police..." She did not try to
defend WTS at all. I did not attack them anymore, just let the news sink in.
Sadly, she'll probably move on and try to put it behind her. But it's another thing to add to what
I have told her that "Elders are not trained to handle things properly, just to cover the legal culpability
of MOTHER." Months back, we talked about the pedophile cases. (She only knows what I have
told her, as no other JW's ever talk of such a thing or generally hear anything.) I said it would be
fairly simple to ALWAYS turn the matter over to authorities, admitting that elders are not trained
counselors, and that the children need special care beyond elders' abilities. The congregation can
follow the results of the legal case to decide when to warn the congregation, even if their Biblical
"two witnesses" are not there.
