What does freedom from the Watchtower mean to you?

Freedom from the Watchtower (to me) is the knowledge that this mind control cult no longer has power over me. Knowledge that it is not just an innocent approach to God, but actually has become the very thing it has accused all other avenues of spirituality of being.

Perspective. Fresh air. It changes everything.

Oh Oompa! Who cares what's after death? Why in the world would we want to waste the time we have worrying about that? Personally I have for years believed that death is just the end of a long day. Good sleep.

Living now instead of putting everything on hold. Making my son's life joyful and happy instead of cramped and miserable. Laughing and loving with whomever I choose rather than those that meet the narrow-minded and prejudiced requirements of small men.

    • Being able to celebrate Christmas. I can enjoy the Christmas lights and music without being forced to turn away from it. I can even participate in setting it up instead of trying to get out of being around it. I have my apartment decorated for Christmas, with multitudes of lights, without any problem.
    • Being able to listen to any kind of music I damn well feel like. Many of my favorites were lost when I joined, and now I can gain them back without worryinb about stumbling anyone.
    • Not having to worry about field circus. I don't have to go out during the better blocks of time I now have.
    • Having more time to sleep on Sunday mornings.
    • Not having to worry about the next thing they are going to ban. All those Keep Moving and Quiet signs at the Grand Boasting Sessions are nothing to me, since I don't even go there anymore.
    • Not having suit dry cleaning bills that exceed my Christmas bills. And not having those fxxxing call cards and books.
    • Not having to worry about field circus supplies.
    • Being able to use mild cuss words that the world does not object to, like "Darn", without having the hounders jump down my throat about it.
    • Blowing off the "just men" that I am supposed to meet at the a$$emblies.
    • Being able to post apostate blogs and posts on different forums without anyone being able to do a damn thing about it.
    • Not having to worry about motel arrangements for the Grand Boasting Session or the rules they are going to make there.
    • Being able to buy holiday candy without worrying that it will stumble someone (hell, if I can buy Christmas lights and garland, what is a few holiday colored candies and other items like eggnog?).
    • Not having to worry about the flag.
    • Being able to say "Merry Christmas". That is one that many take for granted in the world. But, when you are a Witless, you cannot say it (it is worse to them than swearing). In fact, when you are greeted "Merry Christmas", you are supposed to thank them and say "Have a nice day". What a way to turn off someone in a big hurry.
    • Speaking of turnoffs, not having to go door to door the day after the big pedophile scandal broke on NBC. People going door to door now have additionally the embarrassment of householders that know about it because they saw the original footage, and that could cause further trouble.
    • Not having to donate to the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund. I can now spend my money on Internet bills and Christmas decorations, none of which silence pedophile victims or threaten people with hardship for blowing the whistle.
    • Not having to initiate the use of force, threat of force, coercion, or fraud against others in the name of the Watchtower Society.

Beautiful expressions - mostly hopeful and positive expressions. They mirror mine.

One thing that I love about freedom, is the right to change my opinions. As my mind adjusts to life outside, I find that nuances and shades of view change rapidly for me at times. I have discovered that most people we called 'worldly' are in almost as much of a mental rut as Jw's were - they have often handed the right to think for themselves to another, or even to an institution. So freedom in my case is even sweeter than theirs in some ways - they have had it so long that they surrendered it without knowing. I doubt I ever will do that again.

I realize why "worldly" people love the weekend so much. Spending it at the beach with your wife and dogs is the closest I felt to God.

I gives me the time to "buy out the opportune time" (Eph 5:16) to go the gym and work out three or more times a week. Previously, I didn't have time to exercise much because I was so busy with meetings and service plus working full time. It feels good to know that I'm taking care of my body so I won't get as decrepit and bent over in my old age as so many I've seen. The doctor says my health is fantastic.

Of course, the FDS wants us to "buy out the opportune time" supporting them.

Freedom from fear of men, and all that brings. They have absolutely no control over me anymore.

Freedom to question, to think. ("Where's the scriptural support for that statement?")

Free nights and weekends. (Wow...love it.)

I was assured this week that any gossip about me was "only said out of love." (I mean, do they really 'hear' themselves?) I tried not to laugh. That's freedom.

This freedom doesn't come without a cost, and sometimes it seems too high. But we cannot go back.
