My cousin and another Elder in my congregation were demoted{they were asked to resign} about 5 years ago. They both had teens who were disfellowshipped at the same time. The reasoning was that,'' if you can't control your own household how can you control members in God's house.'' Both teens moved out and haven't been seen in years. Now it's only the former Elders and their wives living in the same household.

My question is.....Can either of them ever be asked to be Elders again?

Yeah. The thing is each congo has its own standards. some will make you wait 5 yrs, others as soon as the bad kid is out the house. Also to politicing and reputation come into play.

And if you haven't guessed, they don't need to be appointed Ministerial Servants again.
They can go straight to elder.

I was in a congregation that kept asking this guy to simply maintain the national
average for field circus, as his wife was pioneering, and he could be reinstated as an
elder. He stepped aside years back and enjoyed not being in the three-ring circus
of responsibility. He gave a TMS part about every 5 or 6 weeks, a 5 minute one.
He commented maybe once every meeting. That's laid back. But our elders wanted
to put that fire under him, and put him right back at the center of the action.

    It never happened.

Through all my years of being an elder's daughter, dad stepped down or was removed several times. He always got it back, except the last time. But if he had lived I have no doubt he would be an elder now.

I've known of several, including a congregation servant (yes, from the "old" days) who was df'd and, on appeal, the verdict was reversed and he was just 'put on probation.' Also, a former PO who was removed for "disruptive behavior" in the congregation, and about 3 years later they BOE asked him if he'd like to be the Field Service overseer. He said no, because he didn't plan on going out in service every weekend like a good FSO should...so they made him the secretary instead.

If an elder is removed (or steps down... makes no difference), from his position for any reason other than wrongdoing on his own part (low hours, own household having problems etc), he would be reappointed as an elder (once he re-qualifies) without having to go through the process of being a Ministerial Servant again.

Though usually a minimum of about two years would have to pass before his being reappointed. (This was new from the C.O.).

If a number of years has passed by since a JW was deleted (or stepped down), then he may be reappointed as a Ministerial Servant for just a short time (instead of the standard several years) as a kindness to him. This allows time to get his feet wet again. So they say...
