What ever you do....Do NOT tuck you pants into your boots. "Dude" used to be a bad word like a "Dude ranch" where pretend cowboys would want to show off their new pricey boots and tuck their pants in them. Wahoooooo! Gittiup!

Putting them on and walking to Columbus, Ohio would probably do the trick. I'll even offer you a beer when you arrive!

    Just tryin' to help... ;-)

    Use them in the bedroom

All I'm saying is: I live close to Columbus and I have a spare bedroom.

get them really wet then toss them in the dryer and let them bang around for a few minutes long enough to get really hot but not long enough to dry. Then put them on and run around the block a couple times... Repeat as necessary!

Those things will destroy your lumbar spine if you wear them much. They are designed for riding horses safely and were never meant to be used to walk in. I grew up on a ranch and never once wore them except when riding a horse.

Although when I was high school the urban cowboy craze was going on. Everyone was wearing them except me, who actually was around cattle and horses. I always thought that was so rediculous. All these guys wearing cowboy hats and western shirts and then there was me with Levi's, t-shirts, a sweat jacket and Nike shoes.

What is the definition of a cowboy? Someone who dresses like one or someone that actually raises cattle?

Sitting here with my beer watching the vid Dinah posted,,,, forgot I was at home and I started to put a fiver on my monitor.

I'll put that one in my favorites.

My favorite boots were already softened when I bought them.

    DJK,

It's from "9 1/2 weeks" back in the day when I seriously would have wore Mickey Rourke smooth out.

WooHoo, I love that song and the movie.

I haven't a clue about cowboy boots, but your question reminded me of when I was in Marine Corps boot camp nearly 40 years ago. We had to wear our boots and dress shoes for a short time to loosen them up a bit, and then wear them in the shower and make sure they got plenty of soap on them and then rinsed off. After that we wore them again while wet for a while; after they dried we put black boot dye on them and then we were allowed to spit shine them. If they weren't properly prepared like this then the spit shine would just crack and eventually flake off.

Just wear 'em, they all slip at first, but after a couple of days no problem.

They will be tougher on your feet and back than regular shoes, if it bothers you just get some inserts and you'll be fine.

    What kind did you get?

The best way to break in boots I found was to first buy soft leather boots. Never cow hide. My favorites is water buffalo. Never buy off the rack, always have boots custom made. Nocona are my favorite. Put the boots on, soak feet in boots in a tub of hot water until they squish when you walk. Then wear them until they are dry. Don't do much walking. This is best done on a warm summer day. After soaking boots, get on a large motorcycle and ride 350 miles. Sioux Falls to Rapid City in August is ideal.

Now wash boots with saddle soap, spray boots with leather relaxer, and ride back home.
