my elder uncle tossed all his black sabbath and blue oyster cult

    Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Never had my stuff thrown out, and never threw anything out myself. I knew Blue Oyster Cult was a "satanic" band, and that's one of the reasons why I was buying their albums by the truckload!

Songs that were specifically mentioned from the platform during one talk were Loser by Beck, and Rape Me by Nirvana.

Bands that were specifically mentioned were Megadeth and Poison (like come on!!! Poison?)

I was personally told by that wanker who studied with me to throw out all my Led Zeppelin because Jimmy Page sold his soul to the devil to become the world's greatest guitar player. He also hinted at me to throw out my Nirvana albums. I still have all of them :)

HA!! That's why I could never watch Bruce Lee. My mom said he sold his soul to Satan, and that's why he was an expert. She said that's why he died. Satan is a LIAR and killed him!!

Oh, I was always in trouble about the music. Constantly being given lectures about "idol worship".
I was really into R&B and would try to watch Soul Train when I could get away with it. I loved Chaka Khan and Rufus. Does anyone remember the album with her on the back in feathers and leather, legs spread apart. That's the album I got into the most trouble over.
When I left the witnesses, I bought all of Chaka's albums and listened to them until they wore out.
I still love Chaka -her beautiful voice expresses so much and helped me break free from the emotional constraints I felt as a young witness.
So to the WT society I say FUNK THIS!!!

I hid my Led Zeppelin music, but I remember my mother making me throw out my Queen album. Apparently the group was demonized because supposedly if you play "Another One Bites the Dust" backwards, they say, "I love to smoke marijiana." Hell, I tried playing that song backwards, all I could hear was static and I ended up putting a damm scratch through the song!

Oh and I also heard that the problem with John Denver was that his "Rocky Mountain High" was a druggie song...

You all might enjoy the Mp3's on this page: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/01/365_days_1_the_.html

It's the Reverend Michael Mills (not a Witness, obviously), demonstrating how rock music is Satanic, through the use of backward masking and sometimes just plain rock-ness. Selection #29 addresses the Queen/"Another One Bites the Dust" conspiracy.

    My, how we've grown.

So so so many cd's I had to throw outt. I was once called demonized in the circuit for the songs I would play on my radio show (and they were just early punk not metal even lol) I was accused of bringing demons in peoples houses by influencing them with my music.

Two bands mentioned in the magazines I recall were Gun's and Roses and Beastie Boys. I got in trouble for seeing them both. I also almost got removed as a pioneer for seeing Duran Duran... No joke.

Got i trouble so much for the band I was in too the setlists were soo soo bad you know.

I don't recall throwing anything out personally. My mom would regularly raid my room and tossed my Van Halen and Run DMC tapes. If she couldn't understand the lyrics, they were nasty or demonic. I didn't really buy much music until I finally got a job and a car. Now, I have about 400 CDs and at least that many MP3s. I did toss all my tapes (and replaced with CDs).

I recall KISS, RUSH, Judas Priest, Metallica, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Tool and Depeche Mode being called demonic. There were all the stories of people trying to destroy their tapes/CDs and they wouldn't burn. (cuz the demons wouldn't let them!) :-)

I listen to a lot of stuff, but I can't seem to wrap my head around certain genres... Like the guys who sing like Cookie Monster from Sesame Street.

YES! I remember now, thats the very reason we were all told to throw out our Queen albums.

And the thing about Jimmy Page selling himself to the devil - didnt beelzebob take his son in exchange for excellent lyrics and singing??

I remember a couple more - no-one was allowed Frank Sinatras "My Way" because it was independent thinking. That was one on the oldies!

Also I remember Tracy Ulman doing a cover version of "Move Over Darling" and a long discussion ensuing about whether the song was about pre marital sex. Eventually one eldrette decided that in the film that the original song was taken from the singer (Marilyn Munroe I think) of the song was asking her HUSBAND to 'move over' in the bed and therefore we were allowed to listen to the song, as no pre marital sex was happening.

For some reason we had a copy of the "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack which has very expicit language since there are bits of the movie on it...my Elder friend shaffled through the CD rack when I wasn't home...and insisted on playing what he had found later, to our embarrassment...he was never invited back.
