    THE BIBLICAL FLOOD....

It deepends how someone does explain the Biblical flood, and if you go by the WT's point of view for sure you will be wrong.

The flood indeed happened but not worldwide as the WT claims due to their lack of understanding. It was regional indeed, and it occured in Mesopotamia. But the fact that WT as an extreme Protestand cult, and their trying to give also a scientific point of view of the Bible, in order to support their weird theology and dogmas so their leading to wrong interpretations and explanations. The Bible does not deal with Science. It deals with the salvation of the soul.

The facts show that indeed there was graduate evolution here on earth, with the last ice age 10,500 years ago. When we had the last moumouths on earth among with some other spieces that have gone.

    poor Tyrone,

: I think I stated that I for many years have had the same reasoning. All I want answered from you Farkel, is what are the remains of a boat doing at 6000 ft. plus. Your saying this is a hoax. Prove it

Ah, my friend! The one making the assertion has the burden of proof. I have fifty million invisible purple and orange unicorns telling me God's will. You are saying this is a hoax? Prove it.

Ok , What lies over 6000 ft in the Mountains, matches the exact dimensions of Noah's Ark, Is made of wood, where no wood exists, and is shaped like a boat that you can actually see, and has ancient anchor stones lieing behind it. Wait a minute I know, it must be the ancient remains of a train. Thats called tangible evidence. When marine divers discover wrecks, they accumulate evidence based on what was known of the ship they are searching for and low and behold they can actually identify it even after years of submersion and damage. Did you think they would find a pristine boat with a shiny brass plaque that reads Noah's ark?

We have an anceint document that describes this boat called the Ark and roughly where it landed. I don't know of any other ships that have sailed in the mountains. Do you? I think we can be fairly sure that the boat dicovered in 1985 was the Titanic. Nobody questions that. The evidence is their. What evidence do you want. How many boats do you know, that end up on mountain tops.

:are based on facts which later change, to again alter our perceptions.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FACTS don't change. Facts are facts. Perceptions change, but facts are always and will always be facts.

Not so amigo. When you were a witness what you were taught was absolutes. They were facts to you. Reality had no bearing on it. You would have taught these ideologies to anyone. Truth is our truth, until it is proven false. Witnesses would make the excuse, " Yes, that was so back then, but we've received new light. Perceptions change when facts change. It used to be a fact that the earth was flat. We can say it isn't so now, but those were the facts based on what they knew at the time. Now that we have accumulated more knowledge our perceptions change. If what you are saying is true, that facts are always facts, then our perceptions would be the same as they were 3000 years ago. I'm not talking about universal truth, but how the individual uses what they know, till a better way of assessing matters is embraced. You see, anything considered factual is relative. It is relative to what you beleive to be true, based on what you know. Those kinds of things keep changing as they should. I imagine that facts will remain facts when all things are known to us.

: When you close your mind to others with rudeness or an attitude of superioity you don't just have an opinion you are opinionated!

Ad hominem and a pretty lame one at that.

Well, I must admit you are the type of person that I must control my rage with. This attack however is based on a rudeness I have seen towards others that is unwarranted like " A Christian." It really had nothing to do with the topic. I will dispense the same degree of respect that I feel I am getting. ( Ha, Ha Ha!

: The theory of evolution has been changing too,but its not quite ready for the public yet.

Do you know anything about science and the scientific definition of "theory?" Thought not. Theory is the HIGHEST level of certainty in science, and once something is elevated from hypothesis to theory it has been elevated to the highest form of scientific acceptance. Why is "just" a "theory" so highly regarded in science? It is because NOTHING can be tested absolutely and under all conditions and in all circumstances. That is simply impossible. A theory is limited by the impossibilty of unlimited testing. A "religion" or "belief" is limited by the impossibility of ANY testing. See the difference?

As a matter of fact I do know what you are speaking of. That is why I agree more with science.

Only fools deal in absolutes. Science cannot do that, because they are obliged to question everything.

I thought you said that facts don't change. If science doesn't deal in absolutes, then their are no facts.

: For years it was taught as fact. Now they have dicovered things that just don't add up anymore.

    Like what? Name something.

    : It's called forbidden archaeology.

    LIke what? Name something.

They have found sites wherin human remains have been found in caves with earlier humanoid creatures that they say we evolved from. They were co existing. There are tracks of human footprints beside dinosaur tracks that prove humans have been around a lot longer than previously thought. I think now there are more questions than answers. I know you want more proof. What can I say, thats why it's forbidden. It's not that evolution is entirely wrong, it just far more complex than anyone anticipated.

: Imagine how stupid all these scientists would look if what they were teaching for the last hundred years was wrong. They can't admit it

Imagine how stupid you would look if you couldn't give a single fact to show that the scientists were teaching wrong stuff for the last hundred years. Could YOU admit it?

I think I would look more humble than stupid if I admitted I was wrong. Maybe even respected more. Now you, You would look stupid because you would try to justify and teach something that is wrong. I already told you I don't mind being wrong. Why not, thats how you learn.

This last statement is a fallacy know as "Reifying". It talks about an abstract thing as if it were fact, and you used it, you delightful, but misguided fool.

Reiffying, I like that. Your saying, when I get you to use your imagination to create a scenario or hypothesis that you can't deal with, like puttting yourself in someone elses shoes its a fallacy? Or could it perhaps be that way, just because you do not wish to upset your own reality.

It's not a fallacy,it is a suppostion. I used the word imagine. Einstein said imagination is more important than knowlege. Where would science be without it?

Just want t thank Farkel for bringing this to the attention of the current crop of posters...It is brilliant and I hope it is bookmarked by all lurkers , even if they disguise the name of it...As my old head teacher used to say " Read, learn and inwardly digest...." All the essays are superb.

-As for a global flood, here's another interesting link:

    http://www.asa3.org/aSA/PSCF/2003/PSCF12-03Seely.pdf

    -As for a local flood:

One thing is that they could then easily have escaped. They had several decades in which to do so (the length of the period seems to vary, from 40 to 120 years, depending on who you ask) if not being busy building an ark and preaching. You can get quite a way away in 40 years. If they could 'escape' though, it wouldn't have been a divinely decreed flood, but a natural phenomenon. Otherwise, God could simply have killed people in a different, more "precise" manner.

A local flood also means God didn't really care how the people on the rest of the globe behaved; only the people in the land of Noah. Evidently, they were so bad that God regretted even making them, so they had to die. On the subject; I must say I dislike a God who creates mankind, then decides to choose only one small tribe as 'his'. It's like a father having many children, then when some of them start misbehaving according to his rules, he disowns them all and chooses only the one who doesn't 'misbehave', instead of trying to teach and help them all. But that's perhaps a separate issue/topic.

-As an event symbolically pointing to later baptism, then? I think that's a stretch. - So Noah had to toil for decades, go through the mother of all storms/deluges, and people around him had to drown (a rather slow and agonizing death, especially if you can swim/float!) instead of simply vanishing - all because some centuries later, people would be squirted with (or submerged in) water for three seconds?

When Jerusalem was destroyed, people had been told to flee into the mountains. Wouldn't it have been a little strange if they had instead been told to build a huge fortified, impenetrable building close to Jerusalem? Or to build said building but on wheels, so they could "roll out of there"? When all they had to do was flee the area?

-It rained for 40 days and 40 nights (not to mention the waters of the deep, whatever that is in that region). It took 150 days for the waters to subside enough after the flood so that the ark could come to rest on mount Ararat. It should be possible then, to calculate how much water that would amount to in that local area. I think it would be.... a lot!

God evidently created the rainbow after the flood, as a sign that he would never use a flood to destroy men again. If it was a local flood - is it then meant that the water canopy was 'guided down' and concentrated on that local area when it fell? If we say there was no water canopy at all, then how can one say the rainbow was created after the flood, when clearly then it would have been around for millennia previously? Perhaps he didn't create the rainbow at that moment, but simply put up a rainbow, as a symbol of this? How would Noah know, though? A rainbow would be a very common sight after a rainstorm when the sun comes out - it would almost be inevitable. God wouldn't have to do anything to make one appear then. Not much of a divine sign or symbol.

Those are good points that I have never thought of Awakened. I think all the unanswered questions and the scientific analasis of Alan F prove that things didn't quite happen the way they are described or perhaps the way we understand the writings meaning. I have many problems with the flood. I can't see it happening the way it was depicted.

All I can say is finding a boat on a particular mountain mentioned in scripture lends credence to the myth. The truth is probably somewhere in between. If the boat business is bogus, I can't prove it. You can gather as many facts as you like to support whatever you beleive I suppose.

How could an anastesiologist fake such a thing in a foreign country? It's hard enough getting permission to go to the region let alone having to fend off attackers. Why would the Turkish government even allow Christians to excavate at a holy site when they are predominently Muslim?

If there was no boat, it would be almost impossible for me to swallow. I can swallow some of the flood story only cuz of that dam boat they found.

Ron Wyatt makes some pretty outrageous claims. Many of them I don't beleive. The first time this anomally was dicovered was in 1959 Turkish ariel photgraphs. I was really the Turks who discovered it. The actual people of the village knew about this area for years. Leaving Ron Wyatt right out of the picture, it sure looks like a dam boat on a mountain to me.

Farkel: You are a voice of reason. I can`t help but laugh when I hear terms like "forbidden archeology", things like this is closely related (at least in the line of thought) to other crazy conspiracy theories. Yeah, sure, there is a "secret society" within the scientific community, hiding the ark or whatever, ha ha. Ahhh, the more I read on the internet, the more convinced I am that mental illness is more common than mental health.

To all you Bible fundamentalists: There was no global flood. Read Alan Fs essays, you might learn something. Of course, by acknowledging the fact that no such flood happened, you are left with two options: Either dismiss the Bible entirely, or radically examine the way you read the Bible. If you choose the latter, you might try reading the flood story as an allegory. And you know what? It becomes even more interesting that way!

    Greetings, fool!

    LOL!

    I love it.

    Thanks, Farkel.

I read some of AlanF's when I was lurking.

I don't even remember how I found it.

In fact it wasn't till later that I realized that he was once a JW.

    Thanks, again.

IF THE GLOBAL FLOOD STORY IS IMPOSSIBLE BASED UPON ACCEPTED SCIENCE,

Some other posters have remarked the same.

THERE IS NO ARK OF NOAH!

Thank you. We are humbled that you deign to address us here on this board. We are all quite refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view. The capitalizations and underlinings especially highlight your towering intellect. I must admit, your posting in the OP has shaken the very foundations of my worldview.

There is NO reason to even talk about it!

Now lets discuss Noah's Ark. Its a fascinating subject. Since it is not worthy of discussion maybe you can go away and slip into something more comfortable, like a coma.
