I'm going to read that link - just afraid I"m going to end up with more questions.

I don't know if I'm ready to be an athiest - I like the idea of a God, albeit a quiet god/allah/buddah/shiva.

Ya I know, Hellrider I'm so God dam stupid and your so smart eh. Ha Ha ha! You don't think that governments don't have the power to withhold or even change information as we know it. You sure are a trusting sort. They always did. Its just gotten more confusing since the world of information sharing has immerged. Governments must consider the impact on the masses when information is released. I'm sure there are tons of scholars who have spent their whole lives studying what they knew to be fact that do not wish to be refuted. When they found the Ice man otzi, they came up with a whole concotion of how this guy died and were heralded as great thinkers. That was until they took a simple X ray and discovered that he was killed with a stone arrow. God did they ever look foolish. If they didn't take that X ray though, their analysis would have stood the test of time.

Your only mental ilness is that you do not challenge what is written and kiss the ass of those you admire. Oh dear I find politics so boring. Archaeologists have the same problem. They have to kiss the ass of their professors, dig holes and do studies which their professors take credit for. Sounds like the old ass kissing witness days, no?

Oh one more thing. Do you think I mentioned that my brother found a human footprint in stone for the good of my health. He still has it and no one wants to deal with it. Can you deal with it!

Farkel, You claim to admire Alan F. That being the case, you might try acting more like him. I have discussed this subject matter with Alan at some length on more than one occasion and unlike yourself I found that he treats those who believe the Bible to be referring to a large local flood with kindness and respect. Carl Olof Jonsson, who is greatly respected in the ex-JW community for all of the scholarly work he has done in exposing the lies of the Watchtower Society, is certainly no "fool." Yet he believes just as I do on this subject matter. In the letter to me which I reproduced here earlier he said that Alan F has been careful "not to be dogmatic" in saying that the Bible could not have been describing a large historical Mesopotamian flood. Do you realize how you come across on this board? Not just as arrogant, but as mean, nasty, angry, and absolutely miserable. And apparently incapable of carrying on a normal conversation. So I wont try to have one with you. Jehovah's Witnesses stole the best years of your life and no doubt destroyed some of your personal relationships. They did the same to me. But that has not caused me to hate all Bible believers just because JWs are Bible believers. It seems that is what happened to you.

Genesis 7:11 -12 It was the six-hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month that it happened: all the underground springs erupted and all the windows of Heaven were thrown open. Rain poured for forty days and forty nights.

While I've come to the conclusion that the Great Flood was localized, I certainly wouldn't ridicule anyone else for believing otherwise.

The above reference is from The Message Bible. I find it interesting that it mentions the underground springs erupting. Earthquake/s, perhaps?

I've read all of AlanF's essays and found them to be quite scholarly, but by no means having the final say on this topic.

    a Christian,

:You claim to admire Alan F. That being the case, you might try acting more like him.

Alan would never forgive me if I tried to do that.

:I have discussed this subject matter with Alan at some length on more than one occasion and unlike yourself I found that he treats those who believe the Bible to be referring to a large local flood with kindness and respect.

I have no problem with the notion of a large local flood, either. There are many flood stories as I'm sure you know. But that's not what the Bible says.

:Carl Olof Jonsson, who is greatly respected in the ex-JW community for all of the scholarly work he has done in exposing the lies of the Watchtower Society, is certainly no "fool." Yet he believes just as I do on this subject matter. That's an Appeal to Authority fallacious argument. To borrow from Mark Twain, "if fifty million experts believe a stupid thing, it is still a stupid thing." On the other hand, I don't know if Carl believes in a local flood or a global flood. He seldom expresses his personal views in his books. :Do you realize how you come across on this board? Not just as arrogant, but as mean, nasty, angry, and absolutely miserable. Ad hominem. Attack the messenger when one runs out of arguments. Would the same argument be more true if it was delivered with sugar and honey? : And apparently incapable of carrying on a normal conversation. So I wont try to have one with you. That statement is SOOOOOOOOOO dublike! I cannot count how many times I've seen dubs use those exact words when they run out of arguments. I think dubs and all other true believers(tm) studied the same book. :Jehovah's Witnesses stole the best years of your life and no doubt destroyed some of your personal relationships. They did the same to me. But that has not caused me to hate all Bible believers just because JWs are Bible believers. It seems that is what happened to you. Are you accusing me of hating all Bible believers? Who appointed YOU God and judge? I've been writing on JW issues for over ten years. Show me just ONE case of me stating I hate all Bible believers? "It seems that is what happened to you" is also dubspeak. Accuse someone of being/doing something without any evidence and then qualifying it to CYA. That is another form of Ad Homimen: "by the way you looked at that child, it seems you are a child rapist." There is nothing evil or poisonous about using logic. You should try it some time. Farkel

Not only does Sonny boy not have any arguments, its bulb is so dim it can't even notice what a hypocrite it is:

:No, but you wouldn't look like the ass you obviously are.

:If it walks like an ass, and talks like an ass, and smells like an ass - its an ass.

:BTW-in case you didn't get the jist of what I am saying above - you're an ass.

: There is nothing evil or poisonous about civil discourse. You should try it sometime, ass.

This is Sonny's boy's idea of a "civil discourse." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Quit taking craps in my thread, Sonny boy, and offer an argument or two. If you don't know what that means, look it up. If you need flash cards, I will be glad to provide them. If you require pictures on your flash cards, I can provide them, too.

I like the idea of being rich beyond my wildest dreams, but I don't go believing I am just because I want it to be true. Anyone who did that may need some help.

Believing in God and not believing in the Bible's version of the flood are not mutually exclusive, you know. I'm proof.
