Although "Satan" does not come into the picture, it is worth noting that one of the earliest and proto-gnostic Christologies goes along a similar line, implying that the "powers" ruling the world were fooled into killing "Christ Jesus":

But we speak God's wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.(1 Corinthians 2:8).

But God intervenes through a dream and sends them back home by another route. The "star,"

then, must have been a device of God's enemy Satan, who would go to any lengths to harm the Messiah.

My avatar is a device of Satan. That aint right.

    Sophia (Wisdom) did.

A bit less cryptically: neither "Jehovah" nor "Satan" belong to this particular representation system. The "rulers" (archontes) are neither exactly "Satan" nor "demons," and "God" (or, better, "the Father") is not exactly "Jehovah" either.

We are still far from the 2nd-century and later Gnostic and Marcionite systems which draw a clear distinction between "the god of this world," creator and responsible for the Law, and the supra-divine "Father". Yet it is remarkable that in Pauline and post-Pauline literature the Law by which Jesus is condemned and which is eventually condemned by Jesus' death is already linked to the "rulers of this age," who derive their power from it (e.g. Colossians 2:14f).

Nark, You are out of my league.

Thing is we are expected to believe that Satan made this one feeble attempt to have little1 year old Jesus killed.

    Why did he stop trying?

We are expected to believe Satan was so stupid that he wouldn't realize Jehovah would protect his son.

Satan deciever of 33.3% of the angels and 99%( ? ) of humans.

That was the best plan he could come up with?

If anything the Bible says about this Yaheh guy is true, then Satan's rebellion was the single GREATEST act of mercy toward the human race in the history of time. Satan was willing to risk death at Yahwehs tyrannical hand in order to free the human race from bondage.

Even a third of the angels would rather die than continue to serve Yahweh.

Satan is the greatest hero in the Bible.

    Lore - W.W.S.D?

    I agree with that 100%.

God needed Jesus Dead,Satan needed jesus alive.

Jesus dying was a triumph over Satan.

If Jesus didn't die, then satan WON.

    Since Jesus died, Satan lost.

For what it's worth, I believe we see the same type of thing happening to Joseph in Genesis 50

    Gen 50:20

"As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.

His brothers did sell him, but, God meant for "it" to happen for a better purpose.

This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said: "Here I am against you, O Gog, you head chieftain of Me´shech and Tu´bal. 4 And I shall certainly turn you around and put hooks in your jaws and bring you forth with all your military force, Ezekiel38:3-4

And you will be bound to come up against my people Ezekiel38:16
