This afternoon I was taking a nap, and so were my two children - or so I thought... I heard a noise and rolled over, only to see my beautiful four year old boy, with his big eyes, turned up nose and rosy cupids bow lips, standing at my bedside, asking me if I minded very much if he took his nap with me... "this bed feels so much more nicer because you are in it Mommy". I made space for him to climb in next me and he cuddled up to me and grasped my hand. He fell asleep within minutes and I just lay there, gazing at him and wishing that somehow, I could lock this moment in a time capsule. I want to somehow be able to always remember the softness of his skin, the way he smells, the sound of his gentle breathing and the size of his tiny hand in my grown up one.

Magic moments right in front of you, huh Princess? Before we had our son, it was just us girls when daddy was on tour. Every Friday they got to sleep in mom's bed. I napped with each of them when they were infants. My son falls asleep with me now and gets put in his own bed when dad shows up. I love hearing them breathe.

Then they grow up, they get zits on that soft skin, they stink, the gentle breathing becomes snoring and their tiny hand grows bigger than yours. And guess what, you still love them more than life itself. Would kill anyone or anything that tried to hurt them. You still cherish the moments when they lay across your bed and catch a movie with you or tell you about their day. Your heart breaks when you think their heart has been broken. And in the case of boys, they become the protector of their mother, they bring you flowers, they help you do thing that you taught them how to do!
So what you see in them today is never lost. You will always have things to remember and will never forget the things in the past. It just makes you love them more and more, they amaze you more each day .

How poignant, NJ. It amazes me how protective of me my two grandsons have become.

Yep. When my mother died in 2005, my four-year old niece wanted to know why everyone was so sad.
I explained that our mother had gone to sleep and no one could awaken her. My little niece replied, "Flick some cold water on her face. That's how I wake my mommy up." In spite of our sorrow, we all had a good laugh!

Yes, they really are great for lifting the spirits.

I don't particularly enjoy being in the company of children. IMO, they are generally loud, obnoxious, rude, dirty, sticky, stinky, and spread bacteria & viruses. To each his/her own though...*shrug*
