You can't reason with emotion. Until a person is ready themself to take a critical look at "the truth" they are emotionally committed to it and will never agree with any criticism of it no matter how "logical" or "reasonable."
You just can't reach some people-they just don't get it!

Josie is right. Like I said earlier, one can substitute a word for another word that sounds different , but means the same. Fornicator is a filthy thing to call someone. I have never heard my jw ass. say that, but he does refer to me as worldly, which to me says he wants me destroyed because I reject his bs. To him I say--- --- --- puto. If you have no clue to what I just said, that proves my point.
Ass.? associate. Thought that meant something else? -nope.

DAWG!!! Glad to hear from you!
My husband keeps telling me that no one will really listen to reason until they are ready. Two years ago, or even 1, I would have defended the troof till I was blue in the face. I have yet to find out what clicked in my mind for the veil to move and make me see the light. But once it did that was the end of my career as a Witless.
Some people you just have to leave alone, agree to disagree.

Dawg, I do understand the urge to want to reason with JW family members. But here are two thoughts that may be relevant to you:
- Those of us with JW family members don't always realise that it's often our own emotions that are feeding the urge to want to reach them through reason. Emotions stop even normal people - including JWs - from weighing up the evidence.
Leave them alone. If and when they're ready, they'll see the evidence that's supposedly in front of their noses. In the meantime, you're simply giving them a self-serving incentive to ignore the evidence.

DAWG- Hey dude, nice thread ! As Wilyloman said , I agree , there is nothing like dealing with toxic people . It's tough to say the least. But dealing with toxic "cult mind controlled people ? Priceless. They are totally under the influence of Watchtower society " information control". So- until you can get them to think " outside the Watchtower society Box" they are in , it's pretty damned tough . But, doable , just tough and takes time

Quick JW example, I give a well thought out point to my Dad, in writing.... he calls me a fornicator... Do you guys see what I'm saying? Isn't it infurating and how do you deal with it?
I see your point Dawg, I've dealt with folks like that. It is infuriating. I always figured when the debater started to attack me personally he was throwing in the white flag of defeat. Although they never admitt defeat.
Probably like you say some folks dont get it and they dont want to get it. They are happy the way they are stubborn and inconsiderate.
Some folks will give no quarter until you come around to their way of thinking.

Here's a good read that explains why people "just don't get it!"

i think some people do not have logic anymore because of the society lets face it, you'd need to abandon it to remain a JW.

To me, it's more a refusal to think than lack of ability. When a Witness hears something that differs from the the FDS says they usually just scream "Apostate" and run off with their head on fire.
LMAO.....this is exactly what they are programmed to do!! "Danger, Danger Will Robinson"!!

That is so funny! I deal with this crap all the time.
Here's what I do:
I'll ask my JW friend something like: "Hey, I'm having a problem and was hoping you could help me with it. Could you give me a reference from a secular source proving that Jerusalem fell in 607? Since it is a matter of history, and not just religious belief, I figure there's got to be something to substantiate the claim that 607 was the fall of Jerusalem. How did the WT arrive at that date?"
She comes back with about 200 pages of crap and websites that don't answer my questions at all. Then she wants me to ask MR. Knowitall JW. (No thanks.) Then she goes off on Christendom and how they are out to get the JWs, because they don't want Jehovah's kingdom spread, blah, blah, blah.......
"hmmm....Yeah, that's something to think about alright. But could you just answer my original question? Could you just give me ONE or TWO secular resources that support that the historic even of Jerusalem falling was in 607? Then I do the backward count down for her, show her how it isn't coming out to 607, ...."
Then she lets me know that I should be careful believing what the churches say, they're misleading me, I need to look into their history, yadda, yadda, yadda...........
"Gee, that's intersting. I'll have to do that. By the way, how about WT history? Got any good stuff about it? Surely you study lots about that! That might help me a bunch. Oh, and could you send me some historical secular proof supports the fall of Jerusalem happening in 607?"
I just counter the attack by staying on the original question.
You could do something similar: "Yeah, Dad. Maybe I am a fornicator. You haven't met any others in the the KH? Or going door-to-door? Even Jesus talked to fornicators, right? If a suspected fornicator at one of the doors you knock on asked you this same question, how would you answer them? I don't know what fornication has to do with my question. If you don't know the answer, just say so." Then repeat the question.
