That sucks Princess. You know your sister won't do anything to support them - that would get in the way of her own ministry - they can't move in with her at bethel. So that means you're stuck with 'em. Dang. What can you do??

    Sorry Daisy Boo....

Reminds me of this older JW who owns a pool cleaning buisness. He's in his mid-60s, I think, but still cleaning pools! I'm curious as to why he can't leave his route to a younger guy, but I get the feeling that "Ah'm-a-gettin' " was his retirement plan too.

    Sorry Princess,

Last post, did not send, any way this is one of pet hates.

I am 51 and was told when I became JW in 1974 that retirement funds were unnecasary as Armageddon round the corner, well it di not come, maybe god has had second thoughts.

Got to Mid 30's and thought I need to do something about things, and invested in the stock market- big wt taboo- reinvested in property- we now live in nice neighbourhood, unlike most in cong. Fortunately I can now look forward to retiring in 5 years time without any state help.

Two more hobby horse to add. Education for its own sake - having that battle with 14y JW daughter. Having children, we pioneered and had our 3rd and last when we were 40.

So please vent and no your post was not to long.

As regards your situation, have a word with your sister and mention that she should honour her father and mother - ,worth a try. If not move them closer if they are not already. We did this with my wife's parents as we knew we would end up doing a lot of the caring. They are all non JW and we saw this coming and suggested that they move our way which they did.. That all presupposes you can stand them to be close.

    Regards llbh

I hear ya.......every time I talk to my Dad, and step-mom...It's always the same..."We need vitamin 'K'"....they are all just waiting to be happy.....waiting for the end of the world....well.....It's their choice....and some people NEED relig. to cope.....I think of them as sort of drug dependent....It keeps me from being mad....a little...

Princess, I so feel for your parents situation. Many of my generation would have believed that living into the end of this sytem was a given. almost a guarantee. Even for those not in the truth, when you look back on all the silly hype-hysteria over the year 2000 coming in to play, you can kinda' get a sense of how the mindset of humanity is on this "The end of the world begins tommorow" tip.

It is a shame that many of us, myself included, could not see the reason to prepare for Armegeddon Delayed. I still believe its arrival is immenent, but not within my lifetime as I was previously persuaded to believe. As for those in OZ, I think most of them truly believe they have the truth, they just can't see from the WT filters and blinders and years of indoctrination. As for those calling the shots at the top with all the doctrinal changes and heaven being within reach of the regs, well that's a completely different story. I think they may just be clinically insane.

Perhaps remind them about the 1975 fiasco and the problems it created for many of the R&F who sold out for Armageddon coming that year,

Hey Evidently - that backfired on me. I got into a discussion with my daughter and son-in-law. They informed me I was wrong, the Society never said anything about 1975 and certainly never suggested that we sell our homes and property. My son-in-law commented that his family came into the "truth" in 1975 and they never heard a word about the "end" coming.

Giving them a copy of the 1974 KM did no good. It just got them madder. They didn't want to read or hear anything about it. They went to my father and told him that I was apostate, and he ended up signing his house over to them. Good ploy...

Funny - my son remembers my daughter (at about age 9) saying she wanted to get baptized because Armageddon was coming in 1975. It seems that most of the R&F are infected with a malady called "collective amnesia."

I feel your pain....but from the other end of the spectrum. My husband and I are no longer drones, but we did not save for our future...oh, no...that would not have been relying on Jehovah.....he was self-employed for years. This meant no insurance for us. When our daughter was born, I had to have a ceaserean and it took us years to pay it off.

Now, we are nearing retirement age, and of course, there is no money. But we are putting our daughter through college, no matter what. Poor girl will no doubt have us to deal with in a few years......

My parents are basically in the same situation.

So long as they continue to shun me they will not see a dime of my money.

This is a crime. Convince others to donate time and money with an Armageddon retirement plan promise. Years later the time and money donors are now old and broke. The retirement plan a sham. Responsibility placed on children and grand children who are promised the same retirement plan. Me thinks that the next 10 years of JW's living in retirement poverty will open up the eyes on education and planning for the future
