I wonder where the calories for the 15 pounds came from - I have learned that things like a soda a day can add ten pounds in a year. But also as we get older we gain weight, too. I don't have any suggestions other than keeping track of everything you eat and drink to see where the calories are coming from. Glad you are joining us!!!

I had a good day today, to make up for yesterday. No chance to exercise, because I worked about ten hours, just got home. But I really controlled the calories and had more fluids.

15 lbs in 10 weeks is doable, but for someone who is very close to goal, much more unlikely. I suggest you track your calories for a few days, and see where you are really coming in. Drink lots of water.

I had a pretty good day too. Not as much exercise as I was hoping, but some. Ate very healthy, and very light. Unfortunately most of it was in the evening. That's not good. Goals for tomorrow would be spread out my calories, and be done earlier in the evening, and get more exercise. I've already lost a pound since last Monday, but I was hoping for 2.

Had a good day - walked mostly uphill for half an hour, light weights for half an hour. I'm a little under on my calories and not hungry - that's good.

But also as we get older we gain weight, too.

This is only true if your aging correlates with a lose of lean tissue, which is completely avoidable. The myth of slowing metabolism with age alone has been thoroughly debunked.

well that is interesting - I didn't know that - so the reason people put on a few pounds as they age is because of decreased activity? or more calories sneaking in? I firmly believe that the basic problem is calories in, calories out, no matter what the reason is for overeating.

Decrease in activity sure. Less weight bearing exercises to keep the lean muscle mass up (remember a pound of muscle burns 50 calories a day at rest! If you added 4 pounds of muscle to your frame, you will burn 200 extra calories a day just sitting on your arse). It's mostly the loss of lean tissue as I said. I doubt it would be more calories, our appetites tend to decrease as we age.

Right on Mincan! Gotta keep lifting those weights.

Ok, so checking in. Did not have a good weekend. My net loss for the week, half a pound.

Today is the day I weigh in at the evil YMCA for the Biggest loser contest.

My team's name is Lighten Up. I'll be posting my progress. Great thread.

Congratulations. I was doing this a year ago and have maintained it. It can be done. Keep up the good work. And remember to do it the healthy way so that you can keep the weight off.
