I agree it's one of the most nauseating sayings to hear. However I have made peace with the word blessed when I use it in the phrase; "bless your little heart!" It can have lots of meanings without really being a blessing at all! My own passive agressive way to get back at the churchy peeps, LOL.

I don't particularly care for the Wiccan phrase "Blessed Be" either.

Just my own thoughts here. I understand what you mean if someone says 'God's really blessing my socks off' etc etc. The last thing you want to hear especially if your own life happens to be full of $hit at that time!
On the other hand, reading through the posts so far, I wonder whether it is your conscious or subconscious association of the word with Christianity (and hence WBTS)? As Bikerchic and Gopher have mentioned - nobody bats an eyelid at other common references to blessings - "bless you!" when you sneeze, "bless your heart" as a term of endearment, "a blessing in disguise" when something unexpectedly good comes out of a bad situation.
Take away the Christian (or any other religious) connotation and it's just either a wish for your well-being or someone saying how they feel about life - who can seriously begrudge things going well for someone else (even though things might not be great for you personally)?
Blessed be!

Changling.....oooh boy do I concur!
I use to work for a very wealthy born again Christian......we as his employees were continually told that he and his family were so blessed because of all the money coming in and further god was blessing them with a new 10,000 square foot house he was having custom built....god was very pleased with him!
On Fridays there was always a group prayer, containing more crapola about how blessed he was.
I quit!

Maybe
There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.
“Maybe,” the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed.
“Maybe,” replied the old man.
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.
“Maybe,” answered the farmer.
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.
“Maybe,” said the farmer. -

Tall Penguin: Exactly.
Any time God is given credit for curing the sick, winning the baseball game, showering wealth, he must equally be given crefit for killing the weka, losing the baseball game, creating poverty.
Gopher: Possibly-once-existing-state-of-the-Universe bless you! ;-)
Changeling: Thank you for the post.
For myself, I was taught to not use the phrase. I've always thought of it as being a little "evil" somehow. Presumptuous, maybe. Whenever the platofrm message was Jehovah has blessed this undertaking or that, I always thought, "What did God have to do with that?"

Tall Penguin, you'be gotta love the eastern perspective!
Everyone: To put my comments in perspective, remember, the people in my area have no problem telling you you will burn in hell if you don't go to church. Around here, when someone says he's been blessed or "it's a god thing" (there's another nauseating phrase), they are not simply using a figure of speech, they are dead serious, they ARE blessed.

But honestly, isn't it just a little bit pretentious to say that god chose you to shine his blessings upon, when some many others are suffering?
Yes i've often wondered this also. Just why would God pick you out and reward you and for countless others he does not?
Is he a partial God?
