I do not believe in the narcissistic, sadist god of the Bible

The God of the Watchtower is NOT the God of the Bible. In fact (in my opinion) the Watchtower doesn't have a God, they think they are God. I agree, no loving parent would require what the GB requires, no (again just my opinion) does God.

Changeling, very insightful and thought-provoking. Thank you for sharing it.

All I can say....tongue-in-cheek, of course, is: "If the God of the Bible, Jehovah, is real, He is going to have a lot to answer to The Eternal One for

for messing up what was given to Him to nurture and grow. He might have some excuse for not totally understanding the

full impact of free will, or He might blame it all on his brother, The Devil, for interferring, but either way, He's screwed!

Heck, He might have already been called back to Granddaddy's domain to answer for his misdeeds. Maybe that's why

we haven't heard from Him in millenia!"

You happen to be increadibly wealthy and able to provide for your children and many others indefinitely.
You tell them that you will provide them and their future families with a home and every material necesity.

You're missing one key component. While being incredibly wealthy and able to provide, the willingness to follow through is not there. These "children" may be willing to do all that is required, yet never receive assistance in even the most dire of circumstances. They aren't even dignified with even an occasional "f*ck you" in response to their prayer and supplication.

Why would I worship someone who isn't even willing to say "hello" to me when I pray to him?

When someone makes promises I look at their track record. The promises of an invisible person who has never kept a promise or even spoken a single word to me isn't worth a hell of a lot.

    I agree.

1 John 4:8 (New International Version)
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

    Hi again changeling,
The major flaw with your analogy IMHO is that it humanizes God. Consider these few attributes of God.

    Limitless
Eternal and existed before time and space began
    Knows all things
    Is present everywhere
Created the universe (which the scientists think could well be infinite it size) and everything in it in minute details (to at least sub atomic particles)
Never changes His mind or lies
    Is patient and loving
Is pure just and will judge with total wisdom and with perfect justice

Then how, with our finite minds can we understand His decisions, plans and nature? Else say we have a better idea than God, or that He is wrong until we too have these attributes?

We need to trust who He is and that He wants the best for us. This is where your analogy works, and the Bible too at the child/parent relationship level. Having children has taught me more about God and my relationship with Him than I could ever understand before. Unconditional love for them, a deep wanting for my children to prosper and grown, discipline where required as an act of love and a total trust from my children in their parents and reciprocated love. I cannot even imagine what it would feel like to be ill treated, unloved and despised by my children.

Worship doesn't come easy to myself (being a rebel for 20 years) but I am growing. Not because it is something I 'need too do' or 'is required' either. God doesn't want that type of worship. He wants the love of a child to a parent from the heart so He leaves it up to us. I wonder if you have witnessed (excuse the word) this type of worship? It does not exist in the WTO or many 'traditional' churches but it is THE mark of the true church.

1 Corinthians 14 (New International Version)

    Orderly Worship

26What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. 27If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. 28If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God.
29Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. 30And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. 31For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. 32The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. 33For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.

So the JWs deny who the Holy Spirit is and the gifts of the Spirit such as speaking in tongues and as mentioned before they don't even know God. Get in a real church and experience some real worship-you will find it is the real deal.

Have a look over here, they are worshiping 24/7/365!

Chatham: You mention 1 John 4:8. For someone who demands to be worshipped or else (death at Armageddon or eternal torture in a fiery hell), to have the nerve to define himself as "love", is proof that my analogy holds water.

I appreciate your invitation to visit another church, but I respectfully decline.

Who you describe in part sounds like the god of the bible leaning heavily on the JW slant. I think the mainstream Christian variation is, you have to ask your father for forgiveness for the imperfection and sins that are in you as a result of being born in your fathers world, and if you do that everything is honky dory.

Since he is all knowing he knew that you would have these sins and imperfections and he knows whether or not you will repent but he knows that you dont know so he will let you find out before you go to heaven or hell.

Oh yeah, and to prove that you are asking forgiveness, for all the priest to see, you put 10 percent of your gross in the collection plate.

Still kind of a hard story to believe.

I think if there is a God, he is not as most of us imagine.

And if he is as we imagine, we are probably all going to hell.

I appreciate your post, and have often thought of fathers and their children over quite a few years. Can you allow me to give another slant to the story. Can I ask, who tells us to kiss Hank’s ass. Hank or those who claim to have received orders from Hank, to kiss his ass.

Are you sure that it’s the father, Big Jah, who holds back the inheritance, or is it not some cruel, selfish, domineering step-father who stole the children away.

I’ve often sought opportunities to use the following:

But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 TIM 5:8New King James Version © 1982 Thomas Nelson

So “Our Father” says that us fathers here down below should provide for those of our own. We must provide for our children. We cannot enslave them, torture or kill them. So how could the Father Supreme say that he is going to wipe out 99% of the human race because they don’t go to five meetings in a windowless building each week and push doorbells on weekends.

What about the parable of the prodigal son? He received his inheritance ahead of time, blew it and then came back in desperation and asked to be the lowest servant. He was accepted with open arms and partook of the fatted calf that was saved for special occasions.

We can curse our father, we can ”kill” him in order to get our inheritance sooner. But He still gives the sunshine and the rain to grow our crops. He still gives you life and energy to continue your existence.

You and I are allowed to give voice to our anger here on JWD and in the western countries. That's part of our inheritance, freedom of expression. However Curse Allah elsewhere and you die, curse the step-father we formerly recognized as faithful hank.s servant and we die the slow death also.
