Hi jaguarbass,
"Chalam
Try thumping around the old testament and tell me about your gods love.
You cant just pick and choose."
I agree. I used to have problems with that two years ago. I could not reconcile the God in the OT with the one in the NT.
Now I have no problem with it at all!
All goes back to the faith thing, I trust God but back then I mistrusted Him.
Also, the thing is as you get to know about someone and you find out they are cool then you trust them more and more.
All the best,
Stephen

Hi changeling,
Well I am still hoping you might change you mind and give it a try :)
My belief is that faith is what God want's (see Hebrews 11 for example), and that itself an act of worship.
If you are an ex JW then I expect 'worship' was a torturous affair, maybe in the same league as spreading the WTO 'good news' but until you experience the living God then you won't know what you are missing.
The thing is that God would much prefer the Kingdom Halls stop singing their songs and vacate the building and the 'religion' and put their faith in the name of Jesus as He says.
All the best,

CHANGELING- I certainly agree with your takes. Nice illustration sis ! You get a capital G on your ministry school assignment ! I have observed other people in different religions as well as Jehovah's Witnesses - and a common thread that keeps repeating itself in people I observe is - religious parents seem to be overly controlling of their children , to the point of taking away free will , and over controlling the minds of children to force them into the mold that is each particular religion's mindset . Even common families courtesies discarded along the way

changling - I totally get the analogy. I don't agree with it simply because I feel that as humans we have totally misunderstood what God is all about. There is no such thing as right or wrong, good or bad, and thus the punishment there of. Our concept of good / bad / right / wrong have been instilled in us by generations that came before us, and before them. Because it's been handed down from generation to generation that this is how God is, and this is what is right and wrong we take it for granted it must be so.
We were created to create in turn. Does God truly say that if you don't worship me you'll be punished?? Yet he is supposed to be a God of Love? So how would he justify punishment.
We were created to pretty much experience life in it's entirity - there is no wrong / right, only as you perceive it to be If there is no wrong / right how can God punish you? And If God created you with free will, how can he punish you for well living out your free will.
Do we perceive God to punish us for so called bad because as humans we've been doing it for generations...and those that wrote the bible were humans and could only express God in human terms.
I don't know the answers, and I know this may seem like ramblings.....but I just think we've just gotten it so wrong for so long that it seems right.

Interesting perspective Loubelle.
I believe there is right and wrong. I believe it's wrong to harm others and it's wrong to harm the earth. The natural consequences of causing harm speak for themselves.
I don't think we need religion or the fear of being punished by god the keep us from doing harm. I think we have evolved enough and experienced enough to know right from wrong.

I'm still finding my way Changling.
Stealing is perceived to be wrong - yet with man made greed / with society pertty much dictating this or that to be cool/accepted someone steals to keep to the lifestyle - is it his fault or mankind as a whole
Ruining the earth - we want building / homes to live in, we want the modern conveniences that life has to offer....then we complain and say deforestation is wrong.
(that's kinda the angel I'm looking at it from - just to give you an idea)
