    Gregor:

Being seriously overweight is a terrible burden for a lot of very good hearted people. I hope this thread is not taken as meanspirited.

    agreed.

On a similar vein...why aren't people with horrible body odor (not because of some disease/disorder), but because they dont bathe regularly or launder their clothes?

Answer: because the Society won't back them....it would have to be so extreme that mental health authorities are called in..and if they wont call the authorities on a pedophile, they sure wont call in help for a stinky person. So .....the DF rules are arbitrary and cruel..... and the same as on TV...Sex Sells.... and they dont want to be in the Star Chamber with someone who stinks......

Let me tell you a sad but true story...

We had a dear brother in the last congo I served as an elder in....... elderly...retired, probably has more money under his mattress than most in the congo do in the bank...lives in a shack of a house with a bunch of cats.... dirty most of the time..smelled bad a lot of the time.. (him, clothes, house, car)... he was assigned to the KH evening study (because no one wanted him in their homes), and I got him to a point where he at least well...if he didnt smelled good at least he didnt smell bad either..and his clothes, while threadbare, were laundered by a sister in the congo (he paid her)... if the elders hadnt of interfered (because once he got to that point, I asked him to pray at the study and he worked with me in the ministry...he wouldnt work with anyone else), I might have talked him into going to Men's Wearhouse to get a new suit, shirt, shoes, etc... he had the money.....can you imagine the looks on those judgmental asses collective faces if he had showed up all clean with a new suit? cleaned up, I bet he would have been a handsome old man. I seen pics when he was younger, he was handome then....

since the BOE did interfere..he got discouraged, I got changed to a home study group, and the new BS elder at the KH did not give him the time of day....he quickly backslid....months of working with him so he would not be a pariah....lost.... the man had obvious mental issues or the beginnings of dementia....but instead of helping, they isolated him..

...this is the way they treated a man who had been faithful since youth?, went to prison for a year over the neutrality issue (when he first met you, he would say, "do you know you are talking to a convicted felon?!"...then he would laugh at the shocked look on your face...then he would tell his story of going to prison for refusing to go to war as a conscientous objector.......it was a story of faith... though misguided in retrospect, you had to admire him for sticking to his convictions..good heart)....BOE ....such hypocrites..

sorry...your question just brought back bad memories of a sweet old man treated badly...who some of the elders wanted gone but didnt have the guts to try... thankfully....

Many of the Sistahs who show up at the door can cause one to wonder about this.

It came up during study because I noticed that tobacco was not cause for disfellowshipping until 1973. I asked why the WT would allow its members to languish in that particular sin for over 90 years when all one would need to do was check with the Mormons, Adventists or others who got their light on that subject before there ever was a WT.

"Is the WT so slow in getting their light that I have to check with those other faiths to stay current?" I asked.

I got the JW hem and haw answer about some other question I hadn't asked, so I changed tack.

"Figuring a certain percentage of JWs used tobacco for 90 years, which is apparently such a sin that it gets you condemned so you don't survive in the New Order, that is a lot of people who are extinguished because of the FDS negligence. What sort of person would want to associate with an organization that had such a tremendous amount of bloodguilt?"

That got me another rambling non answer. So then I recalled the Sisters of Rotundity I had seen at the door.

"You know, tobacco, if it is even a sin, because I see you have to infer it is from the scriptures, it makes me wonder about gluttony, which has a specific mention as a sin. I have seen sisters at the door that look like a keg of suet with legs. Do THEY ever get disfellowshipped for that? If not, why do tobacco users get singled out and they get to slide?"

My study conductor regained his composure somewhat, and offered that the large size of those women was because of all that additives in the food. I gotta give him credit for a creative recovery on that, even if it did not answer the question.

My intent was not to pick on people with eating issues or large body size, but to illustrate that perhaps there is some hypocrisy in WT policies.

Pfft, I doubt gluttony is even on their radar. I know a bunch of elders that were the kind of men who:

1-Would need a boomerang to put on their belts

2-Would be easier to jump over than to go around them

3-Would fall out of bed from both sides at the same time

4-Would get on a scale and it would say 'To be continued'

5-It was less expensive to give them $30 than to treat them to dinner

And no one said anything. Ironic that one of those tubby bastards told one of my hefty friends that he couldn't be in charge of microphones because he was too fat.

PS-I'm a fatass and I approve this message.

"perhaps there is some hypocrisy in WT policies" EXACTLY the point I was hoping to make by starting this thread!!! Thank you!

    ROFLMFAO

There was a couple up in Scotland that must have weighed 600Lbs between them. I think a few quiet words may have been had but that was it.

Perhaps to get disfellowshiped for gluttony it would need to be shown that you had been eating greedily 'with greediness'. Twats.

Fat people will rule the world one day,

  • Must obey!
    Must obey!

A JW can stuff their face and pack on the pounds til they are a huge, greedy, fat, bloated PIG, and they will NEVER face a JC. But if they get caught smoking a few ciggies, they will have their ass hauled before a JC lickety split!

    Hypocrites!

Snakes, what a sad story! But we will know Christ's people because of all the love shown right? tsk, tsk, tsk.

This thread has given us lots of chuckles, but it's pathetic at the same time. The WT seems to pick and choose what sins are prosecuted beyond the fullest extent of "the law". Gluttony, okay--questioning WT's authority, NOT okay.

Mercy was what Christ was all about and somehow the Watchtower Society has missed that lesson.

Amen ! This is one of the biggest things the society fails in becoming christ like. Mercy and forgiveness ! Freely the same as Christ had for us when he died on the cross.
