Being seriously overweight is a terrible burden for a lot of very good hearted people. I hope this thread is not taken as meanspirited.
agreed.
On a similar vein...why aren't people with horrible body odor (not because of some disease/disorder), but because they dont bathe regularly or launder their clothes?
Answer: because the Society won't back them....it would have to be so extreme that mental health authorities are called in..and if they wont call the authorities on a pedophile, they sure wont call in help for a stinky person. So .....the DF rules are arbitrary and cruel..... and the same as on TV...Sex Sells.... and they dont want to be in the Star Chamber with someone who stinks......
Let me tell you a sad but true story...
We had a dear brother in the last congo I served as an elder in....... elderly...retired, probably has more money under his mattress than most in the congo do in the bank...lives in a shack of a house with a bunch of cats.... dirty most of the time..smelled bad a lot of the time.. (him, clothes, house, car)... he was assigned to the KH evening study (because no one wanted him in their homes), and I got him to a point where he at least well...if he didnt smelled good at least he didnt smell bad either..and his clothes, while threadbare, were laundered by a sister in the congo (he paid her)... if the elders hadnt of interfered (because once he got to that point, I asked him to pray at the study and he worked with me in the ministry...he wouldnt work with anyone else), I might have talked him into going to Men's Wearhouse to get a new suit, shirt, shoes, etc... he had the money.....can you imagine the looks on those judgmental asses collective faces if he had showed up all clean with a new suit? cleaned up, I bet he would have been a handsome old man. I seen pics when he was younger, he was handome then....
since the BOE did interfere..he got discouraged, I got changed to a home study group, and the new BS elder at the KH did not give him the time of day....he quickly backslid....months of working with him so he would not be a pariah....lost.... the man had obvious mental issues or the beginnings of dementia....but instead of helping, they isolated him..
...this is the way they treated a man who had been faithful since youth?, went to prison for a year over the neutrality issue (when he first met you, he would say, "do you know you are talking to a convicted felon?!"...then he would laugh at the shocked look on your face...then he would tell his story of going to prison for refusing to go to war as a conscientous objector.......it was a story of faith... though misguided in retrospect, you had to admire him for sticking to his convictions..good heart)....BOE ....such hypocrites..
sorry...your question just brought back bad memories of a sweet old man treated badly...who some of the elders wanted gone but didnt have the guts to try... thankfully....
