BJ, my uncle is a psychiatrist who is currently caring for numerous JW's who have tried to commit suicide. If you want, I can ask him if it's okay if you contact him. He lives in Washington, DC.

In Whittier, California. A brother in his 20's named John. Took an overdose of something-or-other and died. Was found by his fiance. This was last year. Was very depressed prior to this and on anti-depressants. Congregation coverd it up but it leaked out.

I'm aware of a 40ish brother in the Dallas TX area who commited suicide 5 yrs ago or so. I can come up with a name, but probably not to many other specifics. Let me know if you need me to try for more info.

Also a DF'd woman in CA. About 1 yr ago. I know her brother.

Mega, do you know much about the Charter Hospital deal? I'd love to find out the inside story on that.

    Hi BJ,

I've been trying to decide if I should post the names and dates of the three suicides in my (former) congregation. I wouldn't want to cause any problems or add to the pain of the families of these victims. It could really be another slap in the face if they happened to see this thread and find a family member's name online like this.

I'm willing to share this info privately.....

    bj,

There is another thread about suicide that you can find by going to search at the top of this page. You might find some useful information there. On page 2 of that thread, I wrote a discription of why I think that suicide is more prevelant among JWs than other groups.

I'm not sure of the date, though sometime between November 1998 and April 1999. A young girl, Jessica, of the Lake Forest Park Congregation in Washington State(Lynnwood, Brier, Mountlake Terrace, not sure what city she lived in), committed suicide. I believe she was 16, though can't gaurantee the age. Although I hadn't attended meetings in years, I went to her funeral as she was one of the few people who befriended me while others ignored.

The best of luck with your research.

Before I met her, my wife attempted suicide. She even said she figured if all that would happen was that she wouldn't be resurrected, NO BIGGY.

    Six,

I actually met the girl because Charter was marketing their program heavily to JWs in Texas, and at that time my wife was interested in becoming a psychologist. I attended some of their group therapy sessions, and I remember meeting Starla, (the girl who hung herself)
as well as some other poor unfortunate JWs who were there for a long stay. I still remember this one JW man saying, "We've got to hang on just a little while longer. It's close. The generation is almost gone, so IT'S GOT TO BE CLOSE" (referring to Armageddon/New World arriving). I wonder how he dealt with "the new light" on that.

John Hopkins---around 1989 Boynton Beach Fla. Recently had left Bethel and returned home with a uncurable disease. bone cancer or lukemia. Stopped to visit his estranged non witness dad at his shop. "Somehow" managed to "fall" under the trailer tires of a passing Semi- as he stepped off into the street.

The windage was right cause he fell in the righ spot. Both axles on the trailer rolled square over him. Locals' did not want to discuss the event openly, however the "S" word did pop up more than once.

Florida has a "sunshine law". The coroners' records should be available.Thats in Palm Beach County
