You know, the points brought out by others are really important. I forgot how much power the men in the congregation have over all of the little details in another's life. (Breakingaway Quote: What to wear, what to think, what to do with your time, what you can do in your bedroom, what you can have as goals...the list goes on and on.)

The free worldwide travel is a good point too. There's another bethelite elder who wants to "encourage" me by showing me his pictures from traveling (I think he said Africa, China and Russia). To show how much unity and love there is in the organization. Forget the love, I'd just love to be able to travel to those places for free!

Money, power and privilege can be obtained in the most unusual of places

I believe their motives are right in their eyes. They sincerely believe they are making decisions that are in the best interests of the organization and the brotherhood as a whole. Of course they do delude themselves to a degree. As far as all the freebies they have they are still in an institutional situation. Prisoners have a lot of freebies too but like the GB are not really free to pursue interests outside of the institution. I wouldn’t trade places with a GB member as I value my freedom too much.

In my opinion the governing bodies motive is to keep Jehovah's Witnesses under , " cult mind control", so as to exercise " ultimate " control of every aspect of their lives , because of the love of power, control, and escapism from having to provide for themselves in the real outside world. That is why they put out a brochure telling older ones in the organization how they can " will " their inheritances to the Watchtower society . Also any property, life insurance policies , stocks , any financial holdings will be "lovingly" accepted by the governing body to perpetuate and promote the furtherance of the good news of Jehovah's Kingdom ! Translation : The governing body needs your contributions because they were dumb $ucks who didn't plan for retirement, have no job skills , no medical insurance , and need a warm Bethel roof over their head - all at the expense of rank and file Jehovah's Witness members of course. Can anybody say - con artists ? Con artists. There - I said it

Jenlet: They want the organization to perpetuate itself.

    Their livelihoods depend on it.

Bourne :An organization's sole purpose is to ensure it's own survival.

This is what I think too. I believe that many organizations start out with good motives, intentions and then settle on whatever it takes to perpetuate itself. Like the unions. I believe they did a lot for the poor people that were working for nothing before the unions came about. But after a while, the unions began to do things that would keep themselves in power. The working man became less important than the union existing for the benefit of the ones in power.

I saw a movie last night called "Changing Lanes". In it one of the junior partners of a law firm finds out that the senior members have swindled a charity out of $3 million and pocketed it. The young man asks: " How can you sleep at night? and the older man says something to the effect that he knows that he does some good each day so he has no problem sleeping.

I think the GB and the officers of the Watchtower rationalize this way too. I am sure that at least some of them see the flaws in what they are teaching, but how can they admit them? What if they admitted that the date 1914 is flawed? If they do that means that nothing that the WT is doing is authorized by God's choosing them in 1919. They can no longer teach that they are the "faithful and discreet slave" that the master found doing his will when he returned. If they admit that blood transfusion are not what the Bible is teaching when it says: "Abstain from blood" they open themselves up for lawsuits for the thousands who have given their lives to perpetuate this teaching. Practically all of their bizarre teachings hold a penalty if they discontinue them. What would happen if they gave up disfellowshipping? I believe that would open up a grand exodus.

As far as asking for money from people, they feel that they are doing it for the "good work, preaching the Kingdom". There are always ways to justify oneself.

I am praying that Holy Spirit will open up the doors of the WT and show them that what they are teaching is wrong, but I am not holding my breath. God even gives free will to organizations and corporations.

    Love and hugs,

I think it all comes down to pride. I think they love the idea that they are among the few who are doing what they should.

At their age their most important business is a good "Poop"!!! - and it prints up real well in the WT rag every month- especially the JW only edition

I have sometimes wondered what the grand plan is. Assuming some of them know it's bogus (there's got to be at least one? ) I have wondered whether they may strategically dismantle the org at some point. Eventually it's going to get hard to defend armageddon never coming. Around 2014 maybe? Imagine if they started to sell off valuable real estate in preparation to embezzle some funds for an easy retirement in Rio?? Supposing they did another 1975 on purpose?! "Armageddon will come in 2010!", everyone gets fired up, then there's a mass exodus when it doesn't happen and someone walks away with the $$$.

They love and believe their lie. It give them a false sense of emotional security and righteousness, that God loves them most, that their insights are the best & unquestionable, and that they are going to get the best reward and the majority aren't. It takes a LOT of personal honesty & guts to give that up.
