Someone just told me that but I doubt it. And as for celebrating anyway as someone suggested I have been out for 22 years and already do whatever I want. Thank God.

It's all a matter of conscience. Your conscience can decide if it wants to follow the rules or be kicked out.

I guess birthdays are bad because the Bible talks about two people who died on birthdays. But what about the Lord's evening meal? The Bible mentions three people who died that day. They were tortured to death and one of them was the son of God! If birthdays are bad than that celebration must be really bad.

I don't even think the elder's manual lists it.

Correct, you cannot be DF'ed for just attending a birthday celebration.

However, if you make it widely known, and the elders counsel you to avoid it, but you go anyway, you can be DF-ed for "loose conduct" (brazenly disobeying direct counsel). You would certainly, at the very very least, lose any & all "privileges" (pioneer, elder, etc.).

It's kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" thing. I suspect a lot of JWs do small things to celebrate birthdays among trusted close family members & don't spread it around.

Doesn't that just show that the rulers were evil? They could have done either good or evil, and they both chose to do evil.

well this brings up an interesting point...

the argument is that birthdays were only celebrated by pagans but the first beheading was done by pharoah...

pharoah was not a pagan since there was no distinguishing in place...the jews did not exist since joseph was in egypt as prisoner at this time and his family was just large but not yet a nation.

this pharoah was the kind man that gave them refuge during the famine and then allowed them to become a nation..he was not the same pharoah who refused to let them leave and brought about the 10 plagues.

the man that was beheaded was in prison and we can presume was there because he had commited a crime..we are not told what but it could well have been one that carried a death penalty (even by jewish standards - wonder how many jews were 'legitimately' executed on someone's birthday) and yet on the same day this cruel evil pagan man pardoned another prisoner so maybe the message is good and bad celebrated birthdays and good and bad things happened so there is no answer as to whether someone should or shouldn't celebrate - just decide for yourself..you are an adult with thinking ability - use it.

jws use the argument that anyone who read the bible would not conclude that god was a trinity...but in all honesty how many would read it and conclude that birthdays were totally forbidden.

i think the only conclusion that could be made is that murder is wrong...not sure we really need the bible to tell us that

The reasons for not celebrating birthdays are ridiculous to say the least.

There is NOTHING biblical written ever that makes even a remote mention to "GOD" condemning people that choose to celebrate their birthday. You don't think that Jesus and the disciples enjoyed a good party, some wine and chat? Please.

This is one of those silly doctrines that never ever washed with me, because even the justification for not doing made absolutely no sense. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that they changed their tune on it, although I doubt it.

It is OK to celebrate the birth, just not the anniversary of the birth. We would not want our kids to think they are special even for one day. This cult really knows the way to mind control. I think we all need to tell them to go F#*k OFF and keep there noses out of our consciences. Gone

    I have a question.

What would be the view of the WTBTS if John the Baptist had been beheaded on the wedding day at Cana which was attended by the original juice looser - Jesus, or the actual day that Jesus himself was baptised ?

Why does the WTBTS have no problem celebrating the day that Jesus was killed ? Go figure !

We can't give children the temptation to acquire pride, self-worth, esteem, and those other bad things by celebrating their progression into our society.

    No birthday cake - PAGAN

But you can have a pinata.

Just like in the Malawi/Mexico fiasco, the Mexicans get all the breaks!

    Happy birthday to all.

I know first hand from a District Overseer that they are NOT grounds for Disfellowshipping. This, of course, came as a COMPLETE shock and surprise to the other rank and file Witnesses that were involved in the...uh...discussion...

I was also going to post up that Awake! article but someone else did. While that article is about as clear as normal, it does open the crack of the door for interpretation just like being allowed to vote a few years back.

This is a fight near and dear to me and I have fought the good fight on this one many times. Birthdays are A-OK! lol
