In what areas do you fear he would be ineffective?

In the taking money from the lobbyist area!

The Clinton's have taking more donations from lobbyist, then both Republican candidates combined.

Please the Clinton's and the Bush's have run this country long enough.

I voted for Obama for our primary in two weeks. I think he is just great, a breath of fresh air. His comments about religion solidified my opinion of him.

I like Hillary too, but will be cheering from the rooftops if Obama is the nominee.

Either way, I will vote Democrat this year.

I have cousins who live in Arizona, where McCain is the US Senator. They told me that he will say whatever he thinks you want to hear to get votes. They are very staunch conservative Republicans and they hate him.

It's going to be an interesting year.

You know, I used to buy into that whole claptrap about him "not having any experience," and that argument could be pretty valid, but I'm going to respond to that in three little words:

    George. W. Bush.

Do you really think running the country can be that hard? Hell, a former AWOL-ing cokehead drunk, who ran businesses into the ground, seemed to do okay.

I'm going to guess that is sarcasm, yes?

I don't think the "experience" argument has any substantial merit when it comes to Obama, but I also sure as hell wouldn't try making the argument that GW Bush "seemed to do okay" when it comes to running the country.

Imo, "running the country" is literally the hardest, most responsible job on planet earth. Even Yahweh has it easy compared to the job a (good) president has. Of course, maybe that's the problem, Bush seems to have approached the job in the same hands-off-except-for-smiting, arrogant, unilateral, Israel lovin' fashion as Jehovah.

    Your guess is correct.

I don't think any of these candidates could be worse than Bush. At least all of them can speak in coherent sentences.

These are more empty words by a politician. Those Maytag jobs will never come back because of the WTO and International trade. Kiss the middle class good bye in the next ten years.

Did George Washington have experience as a career politician? No, he was a general in the army and did a lot of physical work in liberating this country. None of our candidates have had to fight a war just before being put in office in order to even have a country to run.

It is really quite simple, though it takes common sense, to run this country (and you have to be on call 24/7 for threats from any source, whether it be another country or another Katrina). All one has to do is uphold the original constitution with one simple amendment: No person or group shall initiate the use of force, threat of force, coercion, or fraud against another person or their property. Any rules that clash with the original constitution would be ruled invalid and stricken effective immediately. No money would go to the FDA or other regulatory agencies: the private sector would assume their jobs and probably do a better job because of competition.

What would be left is a government that protects its people from initiatory force, threats, or fraud. We would still have an army (as long as this doesn't become worldwide, other nations are still likely to attack). We would still have police, prisons, and courts for those who insist on breaking the law. But we would have market freedom. People would be able to market vitamins--the ones that market crap and fraudulently claim that they do stuff they don't would get a poor reputation and go belly up. We would see Big Oil go bust as new energy sources pop up. The big drug companies would have to start putting money and research into cures or risk going bust to some upstart. Monsanto would go belly up if they continue pushing genetically modified foods, as soon as someone perfects the process and actually succeeds in improving the food supply without destroying the environment or our health in the process. Wal-Mart would stop getting harassed for being better than others at what they do, but would be held accountable for initiatory force or fraud, if they do in fact do it.

And, the Watchtower Society would be laughed out of business. They do initiate fraud to get people to join, along with death threats. They coerce the courts, and even initiate force when doing so is helpful to their bottom lines. Each time they do anything like that, they would be prosecuted. And that includes much to most of the pedophile defense that they commit, threatening children with death if they blow the whistle. That alone would probably put them out of business and in jail for a good long time, while those trapped in the tower would suddenly be set free to pursue their education.

It seems to me that there was another man from Illinois who sought the Presidency and who had little national experience. In fact he had served only one term in Congress. However, many historians consider him our greatest President. His name, Abraham Lincoln.

I don't like Bush, but then again I wouldn't have liked to deal with events as he has had too either. Hillary and McCain are twins McCain is just Hillary in drag and vice versa. Obama is a hopeful and he is the 2/3 Demo I've considered voting for president. Romney imo would have been the person needed to get this coutnry out of the economic mess its getting in. Demo's and Repub are tax and spend = Demo, less tax and spend more= Repub. We would all be broke if we ran out personal lives as they want to "ruin" the country. I haven't seen much real leadership out of Obama and Hillary (give me a break) McCain thinks he's a general, Huckabee I wouldn't trust with anything let alone the country. We are in the s**ts people with whomever gets elected less so if with Romney or Obama. IMO of course. And when I vote its my opinion that affects my vote.

C'mon Mulan...to be fair THEY ALL do that to one extent or another.

What bothers me... I know a lot of you are my age (in late 50's) and remember that history... Obama is riding the shirttails of JFK and Martin Luther King. And now the sacrilege of John Lennon's IMAGINE? Oh mon dieux! What next??

I want to see him debate ISSUES and be SPECIFIC.

There have been 17 or so Democratic debates (not that they get much chance to really talk issues or be specific in those debate formats, but the last few certainly have had real policy discussions, especially the last one with only Obama and Clinton participating), and his web-site is full of policy positions he proposes on just about every subject.

What issues specifically are you curious about?
