    I'm glad , I bought a PS3

The only problem that I see to date though is that blu-ray movies are still quite expensive to purchase @ $35.00 per movie up here in Canada.

Blu-ray burners are around $400.00 and up and blank disks are about $17 a piece, so there still has to be some advancement with production

before they really go main stream and everyone adapts into the new technology.

The price of the drives and media will come down (eventually), I think blu-ray will stick around, even with downloads there's still a market out there that needs more than 8.4 GB as a back up media. *raises hand*

Yes thats right brinjen , particularly ever so now that blu-ray will be the format of choice

I've been looking forward to burning some HD movies and some other data when the price of the burners comes down

That where I think Blu-Ray is screwed and HD-DVD might still sneak out a win in the PC market. Microsoft won't go down so easy I think. Remember the movie and player market are cinched the software and PC front could still be open. It basically comes down to who has more power Microsoft, or Wal-Mart and Sony. All Microsoft has to do is announce that they will be putting software on the HD-DVD format and the war is on again.

That could be a possibility 5go but if the entire industry moves over to blu-ray they may be put under pressure economically to move to blu-ray themselves

    or they could suffer financially.

Another thing to consider is if the entire movie industry moves over to blu-ray and the indications are beginning to look that way ,

Microsoft will have to start manufacturing blu-ray players for their xbox machines which they know is a huge market.

I've been thinking about it recently and i wonder why they don't go to some type of firmware card for movies. I mean I've got a 4gb mini card that could easily hold a hd movie it's about half the size of a postage stamp. They have them now that go up to like 8 gb same size. The movie can't get scratched up and ruined like a disc so easily does and my entire DVD collection (embarrassingly large) could fin into a small 3X5 card file!

I'm not too sure hd movies could fit on a flash card mrk most of the blu-ray movies that I have are in the 25 g to 30 g. range, I believe they have the capacity to hold 50g.

Yeah that new blu ray format is something else isn't it! However they now have a firmware card roughly the size of a compact flash card that holds a full TB!

I guess another issue is if they put it on a card like that then you don't have to rebuy dvd's when the kids rub the disc on the tile floors!

I'm guessing you're referring to the solid state drives like the one used in the MacBook Air (now there's a notebook I'd like to get my hands on ).

Cost would be the biggest factor, those drives are much more complicated to design and manufacture. You're looking at several thousand dollars each. It's just cheaper and easier to dye a plastic disc.

If you don't currently own a Blu-Ray player ... the best choices are:

    1. Playstation 3
    2. Panasonic BD50

You won't go wrong with either of these.
