I strongly beleive Raul will start a transition to democracy. For too long, he has been a secondary figure in Cuba. He would create a historical image for himself if he does that. Bear in mind that it was his idea to open the Cuban market to foreign investment after the end of the cold war. Although Cuba accepted foreigh investment before that, at the time, the government had remained the main shareholder in all enterprises, but Raul considered that, due to the new political scenario, and because of the absence of the Soviet economic assistance, a larger degree of foreign investment was urgent. It was because of that transformation of the Cuban economic model that Cuba did not fall apart. In short, let's not underestimate Raul's ability and willingness to make changes. After all these years of suffering and lack of freedom, Cubans deserve a better system.

Burn,
lol....you really are a case are you not.
When I presented figures to you suggesting that the US ranked 27th in the world health system ranking, you dismissed the figures because they were published by the World Health Organization, which is affiliated with the UN.
Now, when you wish to point to the ratio of suicides in the world, and especially Cuba, you use figures collated by...well, guess who...The World Health Organization....lol
Your agenda is hanging out for all to see. Zip yourself up man!

My family also lives in the Caribbean region. I also lost a relative to that asshole Castro, so yeah, I have sort of a sour opinion on him not withstanding. But to all of you liberals that think Cuba is such a nice medical paradise, you've been fooled by really stupid rock stars and hack authors who got easily duped by a posturing politician.
Case in point, my uncle had to get an operation, he had 3 options. Go to the socialized hospital system of Grenada, go to Cuba's *GREAT* (LMAO) hospitals or go to a hospital in Florida.
After his operation in Vice City, he flew back home healthier than ever. Nobody in that region prefers socialized medicine and especially Cuba's socialized medicine. Chew on that, Hillary.

Nothing will change. These dang embargos have been sooo effective the past 40 years or whatever, that we should keep them in place at least another 40. Once "this generation" is all dead down there, they wont even notice or know what an embargo is.....that is there life....it is all they know..........idiots.................................oompa

Don't envy just because your agenda is a small one. If you've got it, flaunt it.
Leaving aside your agenda envy HS, is yours so flaccid that you have nothing else to say on the matter? I am shocked you did not find a reason to extol Cuban health care. In the case of the other WHO reference it was not consistent with reality and common sense, or can't you see that as you look down in dissapointment?

Hehe. The Castro News Network's "gentle" treatment of the news of his resignation.

I wonder what stats the WHO has on those rafts we used to find on the beach in Delray? Those rafts would wash up and there were hardly ever any footprints leading away from them.
HS.. you are a psuedo-acdemic piece of work...but I like ya anyway.

lol....Diversion tactics from a person who has been 'made'. So tell us Burn, why do you accept as authentic figures collated by the Wealth Health Organization when they suit your agenda, and reject them when they do not? Do you actually have an answer to this question, because if you do not I do. ;)
As to the matter of Cuba, and leaving behind the display of fake passion that you indulge in above, the reality is that every nation, as does every person, reaps what they sow. The colonial autocracy of the US gave birth to Castro, they only have themselves to blame. Given the lack of funding in recent years from either of the 'superpowers' that have blighted the Cuban economy, it is amazing that the nation has not disintegrated into even more chaos, a testament to its people. I suspect that many who escape from Cuba do so, not to escape Castro but to escape from the economic prison that they find themselves in.
Cuba was a Socialist experiment that had so little real socialism imbued in it that it merely became an experiment. In some ways it has worked, in other more important ways it has just proved that no Island is a Man.
Hillbilly,

So speaks the man who has had his intellectual arse spanked so often, by myself and a good many others, that he has developed boxers brain. ;)
Are you the same Hillbilly with whom I intereacted on a private mailing list?
I hope not, as he was dumb as a short-leaf pine. ;)
