the king of the north, the king of the south, a demon king controlling each government, troops of angels battling each other, god against lucifer, animals that talk, witches and prophets, mass murder, genocide, human sacrifice, resurrection, these people will swallow all this crap, but they won't read C.S. Lewis or Harry Potter or the Golden Compass. At least I know fiction when I see it.

I have a feeling that it is not the USSR, but that whole region regardless of political affiliation. The E.U., Russia, Balkans....Even Serbia fits in as a part of the greater whole from my. That's it! You see, just short of the 12th paralell, the borders bounded by the northern pardeihm, of the black diamond slope of the northern angle of the dangle....well, the hell with it.. Let's just say that the almighty wants us to see that the fullfillment of the 13th verse of the 10th chapter of the Hellenic version of the Jewish version of the Greek scriptures, indicates the spiritual nature of the fullfillment of the Hebrew Tetregrammiten of the hollier than thow testiment of .........shit.

Hoi,
Robert King says the King of the North is the VN. You can read it in his essay.

This is a very intresting question. One that had alarm bells ringing in my head.
When i was joining the tower i studied all the literature from the 80s and was quite concerned then that they were saying that the king of the north was the soviet union.
When i was in the tower i had questions as to who was the king of the north now?
Everyone kept telling me not to speculate because we dont curently know who the king of the north is!
Apparently he is yet to arise and he has changed roles again and could be anyone.
Watchtower mags over the past few years have pointed this out too.
We dont know as he hasnt risen yet and is lying dormant until the new king of the north lets himself known
Sounds a load of old b@@ls to me.

I, too, vaguely recall reading that in certain circles of Witnesses, the rumor had it that the King of the North might possibly be identified with Islam. I found this conjecture odd, given that although large populations of Islamic adherents can be found in many countries throughout the world, both Indonesia and Malaysia - the world's first and second [respectively] largest Islamic countries - are tropical, Asian nations in the southern part of our northern hemisphere. Moreover, most of the other predominantly Islamic countries located in North Africa and sub-Sahara Africa are also located in the southern part of our hemisphere. In other words, in contrast to North America and Europe, most Islamic countries are situated much closer to the Equator.

This one gave me a real chuckle:
With the disbanding of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the king of the north suffered a serious setback. Who will be this king when Daniel 11:44, 45 is fulfilled? Will he be identified with one of the countries that were part of the former Soviet Union? Or will he change identity completely, as he has done a number of times before? Will the development of nuclear weapons by additional nations result in a new arms race and have a bearing on the identity of that king? Only time will provide answers to these questions. We are wise not to speculate. When the king of the north embarks on his final campaign, the fulfillment of prophecy will be clearly discerned by all who have Bible-based insight.
Well, where did the "King of the North" ever "change identity" except in Watchtower (and Watchtower-like) speculations?
It's quite amazing to me that 17 years after "the disbanding of the Soviet Union" they still have this kind of goofy stuff regularly "studied" by JWs worldwide.

I think you won't see anything in writing about this again for a long time. I bet they will try and ignore this "false prophecy" and distance themselves from it. Maybe in a couple of years there will be an article indicating that the whole thing was fulfilled when the Nazis killed a bunch of JWs and that was it for that prophecy. Similar to many of the old testament type/antitype stuff from the mind of Freddie Franz- they will ignore any big deal was ever made about this prophecy and try to minimize the collateral damage by forgetting all about it.
Besides, I doubt that any of the modern writing staff has the creativity to come up with the kind of stuff Freddie came up with.
